His World War II service included being chief engineer of the II Corps in the Mediterranean, and chief engineer of the 1st Army during the Normandy Invasion and European Campaign. Corsicana is a city in Navarro County, Texas, United States. It is located on Interstate 45, 56 miles northeast of Waco, Texas. The population was 23,770 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Navarro County, and an important Agri-business center. History Founded in 1848, Corsicana was named by José Antonio Navarro after the Mediterranean island of Corsica, the birthplace of his father. He had died when Navarro and his many siblings were young. The first school opened shortly afterwards in 1849. Women's groups have had a strong role throughout the history of the city. William Everett Potter
William Everett "Joe" Potter (17 July 1905 – 5 December 1988) was an American engineer and military officer who served as Governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1956 to 1960. He was also involved in the logistics of the 1964 New York World's Fair and the construction of Walt Disney World. A 1928 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a 1933 graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Potter served in Nicaragua, where he helped survey a route for the Nicaraguan Canal. As an assistant to the Chief Engineer of the Pittsburgh Engineer District, he was in charge the construction of the Tygart Dam in West Virginia and the Emsworth Locks and Dam in Pennsylvania. Robert John Fleming Jr. (January 13, 1907 – July 14, 1984) was Governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1962 to 1967. Biography Fleming was born at Fort Robinson in Nebraska on January 13, 1907 to Augusta and Robert John Fleming, an 1891 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. As a military dependent, he attended three different high schools and graduated with honors at the age of fifteen. Fleming then studied at the Phillips Exeter Academy for two years before entering the U.S. Military Academy in July 1924. He graduated in June 1928 and was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers before earning an B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in June 1931.
