Will Lammert Prize
The Will Lammert Prize (german: Will-Lammert-Preis) was an East German art award named after the sculptor Will Lammert. Between 1962 and 1992, it was awarded at irregular intervals to young sculptors by the (East) German Academy of Arts. There were 13 laureates in total. The prize, which was donated by Lammert's widow in 1957, was awarded for the first time on 5 January 1962, to Werner Stötzer. This made the Will Lammert Prize the first privately sponsored award in East Germany. According to its provisions, only sculptors under the age of 30 were eligible for the prize. Will Lammert
Will Lammert (5 January 1892 – 30 October 1957) was a German sculptor. In 1959 he was posthumously awarded the National Prize of the German Democratic Republic. Life Germany (1892–1933) Will Lammert was born in Hagen in 1892, the son of a machinist. He completed an apprenticeship as stucco, stone and wood sculptor and initially worked in the studios of the Russian sculptor Moissey Kogan. From 1911 he studied under Richard Luksch at the state Kunstgewerbeschule (school of applied arts) in Hamburg with a scholarship received on the recommendation of the art collector and founder of the Folkwang Museum, Karl Ernst Osthaus. Between 1912 and 1913 he spent time studying in Paris. There he was introduced by his former teacher Moissey Kogan to the sculptors Alexander Archipenko and Otto Freundlich. Academy Of Arts, Berlin
The Academy of Arts (german: Akademie der Künste) is a state arts institution in Berlin, Germany. The task of the Academy is to promote art, as well as to advise and support the states of Germany. The Academy's predecessor organization was founded in 1696 by Elector Frederick III of Brandenburg as the Brandenburg Academy of Arts, an academic institution in which members could meet and discuss and share ideas. The current Academy was founded on 1 October 1993 as the re-unification of formerly separate East and West Berlin academies. Werner Stötzer
Werner Stötzer (born Sonneberg 2 April 1931, died Altlangsow 22 July 2010) was a German Artist and Sculptor. For the last three decades of his life he lived and worked in Altlangsow (administratively part of Seelow) in the marshy Oderbruch region of Brandenburg. Life After a training as a Ceramics modeller at the Vocational Arts Academy in Sonneberg, Stötzer moved on to study between 1949 and 1951 at the Grand Ducal Arts Academy in Weimar, where his teachers included Heinrich Domke, Hans van Breek and Siegfried Tschiersky. Because of a reorganisation at the Weimar academy he then transferred to Dresden where he continued his studies at the city's Academy of Fine Arts from 1951 till 1953, taught by Eugen Hoffmann and Walter Arnold. Christa Sammler
Christa Sammler (born 23 December 1932) is a German sculptor. Life Christa Sammler was born in Breslau (as Wrocław was known at that time). Between 1948 and 1951 she received drawing lessons from Alfred Herzog in Bautzen. 1951 was the year in which she passed her school final exam (''"Abitur"'') which opened the way for a university-level education. She studied between 1951 and 1956 at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts where she was taught by Walter Arnold. However, it was probably more important in defining her own approach that between 1956 and 1958 she was a "Master student" (''"Meisterschülerin"'') with Gustav Seitz at the East German Academy of Arts. She has worked in Berlin as a freelance artist since 1958. Alongside her work as a professional sculptor Sammler has made it a priority to focus on rescuing and preserving historical art works and buildings.
