Will Ashcroft
William Ashcroft (born 6 May 2004) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Brisbane Lions Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was taken as pick number 2, under the father–son rule. Ashcroft began playing football as a child at the age of six. The son of Marcus Ashcroft, a three-time AFL premiership player, Ashcroft's talent as a footballer was identified by the Gold Coast Suns Football Club at the age of ten. He played for various teams in Queensland as a child, before moving to Melbourne in 2019 at the age of 15 where he commenced playing for the Sandringham Dragons. During his time with the Sandringham Dragons, Ashcroft was promoted to captain and received the Larke Medal for best player at the national championships. At the 2022 AFL Draft, Ashcroft was chosen to play for the Brisbane Lions. Ashcroft is widely considered the best player in the 2022 draft class by AFL club recruiters. Father–son Rule
The father–son rule is a rule that allows clubs preferential recruiting access to the sons of players who have made a major past contribution to the club in Australian rules football, most notably in the Australian Football League. The rule was first established in 1949, and there have been more than ten amendments, most recently the refining of the draft bidding process in 2015. Touk Miller (, rhymes with "Luke"; born 22 February 1996) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). Miller plays as a midfielder and was drafted to the Suns as the 29th overall pick in the 2014 AFL draft. Gary Ablett Jr. (born 14 May 1984) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). John Townsend (footballer)
John Townsend (born 16 June 1943) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Sale, Townsend came to Melbourne and made his league debut in 1962. He played as a rover and was handy near goals, topping the club's goalkicking in their premiership season of 1964 with 35 of them. Townsend won Melbourne's Best and Fairest award in both 1965 and 1969. He finished his career in the Victorian Football Association with Prahran.
