The 1964 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Collingwood Football Club and Melbourne Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 19 September 1964. It was the 67th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1964 VFL season. The match, attended by 102,471 spectators, was won by Melbourne by a margin of 4 points, marking the club's 12th premiership victory. This would be the last premiership won by Melbourne until 2021. Bernie Massey
Bernard Dean Massey (12 August 1939 – 19 June 2023) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. Massey played mostly as a Fullback (Australian rules football), fullback and starred in Melbourne's 1964 VFL Grand Final, 1964 premiership side, keeping Collingwood full-forward Ian Graham (footballer, born 1943), Ian Graham goalless in the Grand Final. His last VFL season was in 1967 and he went on to become the captain-coach of Eltham Football Club. He holds the record for the most games played for Melbourne without scoring a goal. Bernie Massey died on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast on 19 June 2023, at the age of 83. His funeral was held in Tweed Heads on 27 June 2023. References External links

Graham Wise (born 13 October 1942) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. John Townsend (footballer)
John Townsend (born 16 June 1943) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Sale, Townsend came to Melbourne and made his league debut in 1962. He played as a rover and was handy near goals, topping the club's goalkicking in their premiership season of 1964 with 35 of them. Townsend won Melbourne's Best and Fairest award in both 1965 and 1969. He finished his career in the Victorian Football Association with Prahran. In 2003 he was selected in Prahran's Team of the Century. John Lord (footballer, Born 1937)
John Lord (2 April 1937 – 30 July 2021) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Although he played his early football in Echuca he was recruited from the Lismore Football Club on the Western Plains of Victoria where he was stationed with Elders Smith, now Elders Limited. A strong mark, Lord was used by coach Norm Smith in both defence and attack. He played most of his early football down back and was a Melbourne premiership player in 1957, 1959 and 1960. Don Williams (footballer, Born 1935)
Donald Edward Williams (3 November 1935 – 19 October 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne during the 1950s and 1960s. Williams was a half-back flanker and five time premiership player with Melbourne, including their successive triumphs in 1955, 1956 and 1957. After being dropped to the bench in the 1959 grand final he decided to leave the club and spent the 1960 season with West Perth, who won the WAFL Grand Final in that year. Brian Dixon (Australian Rules Footballer)
Brian James Dixon (born 20 May 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer and Victorian politician. Dixon played 252 VFL games for Melbourne between 1954 and 1968, playing mostly on the wing. He played in five premierships, winning Melbourne's best and fairest in 1960, while in 1961 he was selected in the All-Australian team and he also won the Tassie Medal for his performances at the 1961 Brisbane Carnival. In 2000 he was named in Melbourne's Team of the Century. Despite still playing football for Melbourne, he entered parliament in 1964, as the member for the now abolished seat of St Kilda, representing the Liberal Party. Being from the moderate wing of the party he clashed with then Premier Henry Bolte, especially over the hanging of Ronald Ryan which Dixon strongly opposed. Frank Davis (born 25 August 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Davis was educated at Salesian College (Chadstone), Salesian College, Chadstone.
