Wilde (film)
''Wilde'' is a 1997 British biographical film directed by Brian Gilbert and starring Stephen Fry in the title role. The screenplay by Julian Mitchell is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1987 biography of Oscar Wilde by Richard Ellmann. Fry received critical acclaim for his performance as well as for his likeness to Wilde, and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Drama. Jennifer Ehle (as Oscar's wife Constance Lloyd Wilde) and Zoë Wanamaker (as Ada Leverson) were both nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Starring as Lord Alfred "Bosie" Douglas, Jude Law was nominated for the Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer. The film also sees Orlando Bloom make his screen debut. Wilde, Buenos Aires
Wilde is a city in the Avellaneda Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Wilde is the most populous district in Avellaneda, with a total of 65,881 inhabitants (as of a 2001 census). It is a part of the Greater Buenos Aires urban agglomeration. The city originated as an estancia founded by Luis Gaitán circa 1600. The settlement was the site of the first salthouse in what is now Argentina. In 1888, Eduardo Wilde named it after his uncle, Doctor José Antonio Wilde (1813–1887). Dr. Wilde was a physician who led local efforts to improve public health, including obtaining permits for the construction of the local hospital and sewer system. The 1885 opening of a Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway station at the site led to the establishment of Villa Jurado, the city's first subdivision (1889). Wilda (German ''Wilda'' or ''Wilde'') is a southern part of the city of Poznań in western Poland. It was the smallest of the five governmental districts ''(dzielnicas)'' into which the city was divided prior to 1990, and which are retained for certain administrative purposes. The name ''Wilda'' more popularly refers to a narrower area – the old neighbourhood (and former village) of Wilda, centred on the ''Rynek Wildecki'' market.
