Wilbert McIvor
Wilbert McIvor (January 11, 1915 – March 22, 1987) was a Canadian farmer and provincial politician. He was the Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the constituency of Arm River, from 1967 until 1971. As representative of the Arm River riding, he was preceded by Progressive Conservative party leader Martin Pederson and followed by New Democrat Donald Leonard Faris. He was born on the family homestead near Craik, Saskatchewan Craik is a town in south central Saskatchewan, Canada, incorporated on August 1, 1907. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The party was the provincial affiliate of the Liberal Party of Canada until 2009. The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. Arm River (electoral District)
Arm River is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. This constituency is located in south central Saskatchewan. Revived as a result of the 2013 revision of Saskatchewan's electoral districts, it was last contested in the 2020 election. Arm River was originally created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908. The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. Martin Pederson
Martin Pederson (December 5, 1921 – September 1, 2001) was a Canadian farmer, business owner and politician, who was leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan from 1958 to 1968. He was born on the family farm near Hawarden, Saskatchewan. Pederson served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. He was provincial president and national vice-president of the Young Conservative Association and president of the Saskatchewan Progressive Conservative Association before becoming provincial party leader. Pederson operated trucking and insurance companies as well as farming. The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. Donald Leonard Faris
Donald Leonard Faris (born 18 November 1936) is a Canadian United Church minister and former provincial politician. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and grew up and was educated there. Faris received his BA degree from the University of BC and his BD degree from Union College of BC (now part of the Vancouver School of Theology). In 1967 he received his PhD in Christian Doctrine from New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the New Democrat member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the constituency of Arm River from 1971 until 1978. The ''Dominion Lands Act'' (long title: ''An Act Respecting the Public Lands of the Dominion'') was an 1872 Canadian law that aimed to encourage the settlement of the Canadian Prairies and to help prevent the area being claimed by the United States. The Act was closely based on the U.S. ''Homestead Act of 1862'', setting conditions in which the western lands could be settled and their natural resources developed. Craik is a town in south central Saskatchewan, Canada, incorporated on August 1, 1907. It is strategically located along Provincial Highway 11 (Louis Riel Trail) in the RM of Craik No. 222, 140 km south-east of Saskatoon and 117 km north-west of Regina. Girvin is a former village of 20 people in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located midway between Regina and Saskatoon on Highway 11 between the towns of Davidson and Craik. The village was formally dissolved in 2005; its remaining population is now counted as part of the rural municipality of Arm River.
