Wiener Volkskonservatorium
The Wiener Volkskonservatorium was a Conservatory in Vienna established between 1923 and 1926 by Ferdinand Grossmann, Emmerich Maday, and Eduard Castle. It was dissolved in 1938 amidst financial difficulties. Ferdinand Grossmann
Ferdinand Grossmann (4 July 1887 – 5 December 1970) was an Austrian choral conductor, vocal teacher and composer. He studied music in Linz. Some years later in Vienna he attended a class of conducting given by Felix Weingartner. In 1923 he established the Wiener Volkskonservatorium. He later became the artistic director of the Wiener Sängerknaben, and led the choir to gain international reputation. Walter Pach (composer)
Walter Pach (July 1, 1883 – November 27, 1958) was an artist, critic, lecturer, art adviser, and art historian who wrote extensively about modern art and championed its cause. Through his numerous books, articles, and translations of European art texts Pach brought the emerging modernist viewpoint to the American public. He organized exhibitions of contemporary art for New York City galleries of the period. He was also extremely helpful to Arthur B. Davies, president of the landmark exhibition of 1913, the "International Exhibition of Modern Art," known as the Armory Show, as well as to one of its founders Walt Kuhn, by bringing together leading contemporary European and American artists. Walter Bricht (September 21, 1904 – March 20, 1970) was a noted Austrian-American pianist, composer and teacher. Early life Born in Vienna, Bricht was exposed to multiple musical influences from his youth. His father, Balduin Bricht, was a music critic for the ''Volkszeitung'', a newspaper in Vienna. His mother, Agnes Pylleman Bricht was a concert singer and pianist, and became his first teacher. His talent was recognized early on. Bricht received his first piano lesson at age four, and began composing piano pieces and songs by age twelve. He was educated at the Vienna Academy for Music, graduating in 1928 with degrees in composition, conducting and piano. Bricht was a student of famed composer Franz Schmidt.
