Wiener Jeunesse Orchester
The Wiener Jeunesse Orchester (WJO, ''Vienna Youth Orchestra'') is the national youth orchestra of Austria, founded 1987 in Vienna. It consists of students between 18 and 26 years of age from all Austrian states. The WJO has worked with conductors including Atso Almila, John Axelrod, Asher Fisch, Valery Gergiev, Manfred Honeck, Rupert Huber, Lutz Köhler, Gérard Korsten, Daniel Meyer, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Andrea Quinn and Johannes Wildner. A youth orchestra is an orchestra made of Youth, young musicians, typically ranging from pre-teens or teenagers to those of Music school, conservatory age. Depending on the age range and selectiveness, they may serve different purposes. Gérard Korsten (born 1960) is an Austrian musician and conductor. Life Born in Pretoria, Korsten studied violin at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Ivan Galamian as well as in Salzburg with Sándor Végh. He was initially concertmaster of the Camerata Salzburg, and in 1987 took up the post of concertmaster with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe for nine years. The European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO) is the association of the national youth orchestras of Europe. Its mission statement is to "provide a unique platform for the exchange of experience in orchestra training". It is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. Johannes Wildner
Johannes Wildner (born 1956) is an Austrian conductor, conducting professor, and former member violinist with the Vienna Philharmonic. Biography Born in Mürzzuschlag, Austria, Wildner studied conducting, violin and musicology and has established himself as one of the foremost Austrian conductors. His years of experience as a member of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra have given his conducting a distinctive stamp. After positions as Chief Conductor of Prague State Opera (1994–95) and First Permanent Conductor of Leipzig Opera (1996–98), Wildner was the General Music Director of the for ten years from 1997. Andrea Quinn (born 1964) is an English conductor. Early life She studied at the Royal Academy of Music and in Hungary. In 1993 Quinn won the Royal Opera House’s Conduct for Dance competition, and has since then been in great demand as a ballet conductor. Andrés Orozco-Estrada (born 14 December 1977) is a Colombian violinist and conductor, with dual nationality in Colombia and Austria. Early life Born in Medellín, Orozco-Estrada studied music at the Instituto Musical Diego Echavarría and learned to play violin there before taking conducting classes from age 15. Before his seventeenth birthday, he moved to Bogotá to study at the Pontifical Xavierian University. Daniel Meyer was born in Cleveland, Ohio and has been conductor and musical director of several prominent American orchestras. He is a graduate of Denison University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is a doctoral candidate in music at Boston University. He studied conducting at Boston University, where he won the Orchestral Conducting Honors Award from the Boston University.
