Widnoon is an unincorporated community located near the center of Madison Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, Madison Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community is north of Templeton, Pennsylvania, Templeton. Widnoon had its own post office from March 22, 1880, to February 3, 2005. It still has its own ZIP code, 16261. History Duncanville, later called Widnoon, appears in the 1876 Atlas of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Duncanville was named after James Duncan who established a store there in 1854. The United Brethren and the Presbyterians had organized churches here and houses of worship in 1878 which were no longer in use by 1913. Widnoon lies on tract No. 314, covered by warrant 2868, called "Elliott Grove," which adjoined the original line between Toby and Red Bank townships on the east. Armstrong County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 65,558. The county seat is Kittanning. The county was organized on March 12, 1800, from parts of Allegheny, Westmoreland and Lycoming Counties. Area code 724 is a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania telephone area code in western and southwestern Pennsylvania, including most of the suburbs of Pittsburgh. It was split from area code 412 on February 1, 1998. Originally, Bell Atlantic wanted to implement 724 as an overlay of 412. However, overlays were still a new concept at the time, and met with some resistance due to the requirement for ten-digit dialing. For this reason, 724 was implemented as a split, with nearly all of the old 412 territory outside Allegheny County getting the new area code, making it one of the six pairs of "doughnut area codes" in the numbering plan. Within only two years, both 724 and 412 were on the verge of exhaustion due to the Pittsburgh area's rapid growth and the proliferation of cell phones and pagers. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
