Whirlpool Productions
Whirlpool Productions is a German house music project formed in 1991 from Cologne, consisting of musicians and producers Eric D. Clark, Justus Köhncke and Hans Nieswandt. Musical career Whirlpool Productions are known for their unique, experimental sound that shaped the style of bands like Sensorama or Egoexpress. Their disco hit "From Disco to Disco" was a big success. In summer 1997, it was a number 1 for 9 weeks in Italy. The musicians were also journalists in the old editorial staff of '' Spex'' music magazine, and therefore were also interested in the theoretical side of their activity. Today, they appear mostly as DJs. Hans Nieswandt talks in his book ''Plus Minus Acht'' about his memories of house in the '90s. From Disco To Disco
"From: Disco to: Disco" is a song recorded by German experimental house music project Whirlpool Productions. It is produced by Eric D. Clark, Justus Köhncke and Hans Nieswandt, and was released in 1996 by ElektroMotor, Ladomat 2000 and Sum Records as the second single from the project's second album, ''Dense Music'' (1996). A huge hit in clubs, the song reached number-one in Italy for nine weeks in the summer of 1997. Additionally, "From: Disco to: Disco" also peaked at number 13 in Belgium and number 54 in the Netherlands. The accompanying music video was directed by Smoczek Policzek. Ten years later, in 2006, the song was released in a new version, as "From: Disco to: Disco 2006". Justus Köhncke
Justus Köhncke (born 1966 in Gießen) is a German techno producer and pop musician from Cologne. Köhncke was a member of the house trio Whirlpool Productions, along with Hans Nieswandt and Eric D. Clark. Together, they had a number one hit in Italy in 1997 with their house track " From Disco to Disco". Since 1999, he has released tracks on the Cologne label Kompakt. In his music, he combines minimal techno with disco and Krautrock elements. Musical collaborations In 2004, Köhncke produced the single "Durch die Nacht" for Andreas Dorau. He also worked with Dirk von Lowtzow of Tocotronic, as well as for Phantom/Ghost. In the last few years, he has also worked on soundtracks with Irmin Schmidt, a member of the band Can. The Sensorama was a machine that is one of the earliest known examples of immersive, multi-sensory (now known as multimodal) technology. This technology, which was introduced in 1962 by Morton Heilig, is considered one of the earliest virtual reality (VR) systems. Development Heilig, who today would be thought of as a "multimedia" specialist, in the 1950s saw theater as an activity that could encompass all the senses in an effective manner, thus drawing the viewer into the onscreen activity. He dubbed it "Experience Theater", and detailed his vision of multi-sensory theater in a 1955 paper, "The Cinema of the Future" (Robinett 1994). ''Spex'' was a German rock and pop culture magazine located in Berlin, Germany. Besides music news, ''Spex'' also covered literature, cinema, fashion and contemporary social trends. Since January 2008, ''Spex'' was headquartered in Berlin and included an audio CD. History The foundation The paper's first issue was published in Cologne in 1980 by a small group of writers who decided to found their own music paper: they were Gerald Hündgen, Clara Drechsler, Dirk Scheuring, Wilfried Rütten and Peter Bömmels.
