''Whirligig'' is the first studio album by the alternative rock band The Caulfields. It was released on audio cassette and CD on February 7, 1995, on A&M Records. Critical reception ''People'' called the album an "exceptionally smart collection of pop-rock gems with a sound that recalls the glory days of Elvis Costello & the Attractions." ''Trouser Press'' wrote: "Singer/guitarist John Faye chronicles slacker life in a sleepy college town, addressing alienation and the perceived hypocrisy of the adult world in short, catchy modern pop songs that occasionally betray his grave concerns about important matters." The Caulfields
The Caulfields were an American alternative rock band from Newark, Delaware, Newark, Delaware which recorded two albums for A&M Records in the late 1990s. The group was led by singer-songwriter John Faye, the frontman for the Philadelphia-based groups IKE. The group is best known for their song "Devil's Diary." Their first album was 1995's ''Whirligig''. The album's initial single was "Devil's Diary", which received limited radio play as well as exposure on MTV. "Devil's Diary" peaked at No. 61 in Australia. The band toured Australia on the back of airplay on popular youth radio station Triple J, supporting Australian band Died Pretty. Two weeks before the release of their second album ''L'' in 1997, A&M Records fired the Artists and repertoire, A&R executive representing the band. Six months later the Caulfields disbanded. Pop Rock
Pop rock (also typeset as pop/rock) is a fusion genre with an emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft, and less emphasis on attitude than rock music. A&M Records was an American record label founded as an independent company by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss in 1962. Due to the success of the discography A&M released, the label garnered interest and was acquired by PolyGram in 1989 and began distributing releases from Polydor Ltd. from the UK. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''. John Faye
John Faye (born 1966) is a singer-songwriter from Newark, Delaware. John first rose to the spotlight as front man of The Caulfields, who were signed to A&M Records from 1995 to 1997 He has also been involved with a few other projects in the Philadelphia area, most notably with IKE and as half of the duo John & Brittany from 2011 until their final show on October 17, 2014. John attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a degree in English. John's new backing band goes by the name "Those Meddling Kids".
