Wharncliffe Side
Wharncliffe Side is a village in South Yorkshire, England, northwest of Sheffield and within the city borough. Wharcliffe Side is located on the west bank of the River Don, approximately northwest of Sheffield city centre, and northwest of Oughtibridge, south of the confluence of the Ewden beck and the River Don. The village is at an elevation of and the A6102 road passes through the village. The village has a population of 1355 as of 2011, and is a commuter village for Sheffield and Stocksbridge. The village is within the Stocksbridge and Upper Don electoral ward. There is a primary school on Brighthomelee Lane, along with a post office and two public houses within the village. The River Don (also called River Dun in some stretches) is a river in South Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It rises in the Pennines, west of Dunford Bridge, and flows for eastwards, through the Don Valley, via Penistone, Sheffield, Rotherham, Mexborough, Conisbrough, Doncaster and Stainforth. Stocksbridge is a town and civil parish, in the City of Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies just to the east of the Peak District. The town is located in the steep-sided valley of the Little Don River, below the Underbank Reservoir. It blends into the areas of Deepcar, Bolsterstone and the eastern end of Ewden valley around Ewden village, which are also within the civil parish. Glen Howe Park
Glen Howe Park is a public recreation area in the village of Wharncliffe Side within the City of Sheffield, England. The park covers an area of 19 acres in the valley of the Tinker Brook, a minor tributary of the River Don, South Yorkshire, River Don. It is home to a variety of fungus, fungi, rare plants and animals only found in ancient woodlands. History The valley of the Tinker Brook first became colonised by trees after the last ice age and has remained wooded ever since. The Tinker Brook and Howe Wood were first mentioned on Ordnance Survey, OS maps in 1855. Glen Howe Park was set up in the valley in 1881 through the patronage of a local businessman, Joseph Dixon, and a landowner and stonemason, John Mills. Brightholmlee
Brightholmlee is a small rural hamlet situated within the City of Sheffield in England. The hamlet falls within the Stannington Ward of the City. It is located 6.2 miles (10 km) north-west of the city centre and west of Wharncliffe Side within Bradfield Parish. Previously a farming community, it consist of four farmsteads, Manor Farm, Old Hall Farm, High Lea Farm and Lee Farm. It is now almost entirely residential with the last working farm being sold for development in 2013.
