Weston, Hertfordshire
Weston is a village and civil parish in the North Hertfordshire district of Hertfordshire, England. It is located around 4 miles north of Stevenage, 2.5 miles south of Baldock and the same distance south-east of Letchworth, although it lies in the Hitchin post town. The A1(M) motorway passes to the west and the A505 Baldock bypass to the north, in a cut-and-cover tunnel that passes through the Weston Hills. These hills were made famous by the Robin Hood-style character Jack o'Legs, who was allegedly buried in the village's church graveyard. Weston Road and the Village of Weston, both within Toronto, were named after this place. North Hertfordshire is a Non-metropolitan district, local government district in Hertfordshire, England. Its council is based in Letchworth. Jack O'Legs
In folklore, Jack o' Legs (also spelled Jack O'Legs) is a giant from Hertfordshire, England. Jack is said to have been an archer who, like Robin Hood, robbed the rich to give to the poor. His supposed grave is in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, Weston. Legend According to local legend, Jack lived in a cave in a wood at Weston near the mediaeval town of Baldock. When one year there was a poor harvest the Baldock bakers raised the price of flour, so Jack ambushed the bakers and gave the flour to his friends in Weston. In revenge, the bakers caught and blinded him. They gave him a final wish. Jack asked to be pointed in the direction of Weston, so he could shoot an arrow with his bow. Where the arrow landed, he wished to be buried. The bakers gave him his huge bow which nobody else could pull. Weston is a neighbourhood and former village in Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Lannock Mill, Weston
Lannock Mill is a Grade II listed tower mill at Weston, Hertfordshire, England which is derelict. History Lannock Mill was built in 1860. A windmill had previously been shown on Warburton's map dated 1720 and Thomas Kitchin's map dated 1749. The mill was built by Richard Christy, who worked it until his son Richard took over in 1868. In 1882, Richard Christy Jr emigrated to America and the mill was taken over by Thomas Sanderson. He installed a steam engine as auxiliary power. The mill was badly damaged in a storm in the late 1880s. Holy Trinity Church, Weston
Holy Trinity Church is the parish church for the village of Weston in Hertfordshire. The church building stands to the south-east of the village on high ground, and is built of flint and coursed ironstone rubble. It was Grade I listed in 1968. In the churchyard is the supposed grave of the giant Jack o'Legs. History The Domesday Book of 1086 mentions two priests at Weston but says nothing of a church being there. The advowson of the church was awarded by Gilbert de Clare to the Knights Templar before 1148. This was later confirmed by William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke. The Knights Templars held the advowson until 1309, when their order was suppressed, and it then passed to the Knights Hospitallers. In 1481 the inhabitants of Weston complained that their vicar John Hawthorn was 'a common player, and daily played le Penyprykke and Bowles'. Weston Road is a north–south street in the west end of Toronto and western York Region in Ontario, Canada. The road is named for the former Village of Weston, which was located near Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West. Route description In the south, Weston Road begins at St. Clair Avenue opposite the north end of the southern leg of Keele Street. The southernmost 55 metres of the street north of St. Clair, where the roadway diverted to the west off its straight baseline, was formerly a part of Keele, which officially breaks here and is cut off from its northern section. Robin Hood
Robin Hood is a legendary heroic outlaw originally depicted in English folklore and subsequently featured in literature and film. According to legend, he was a highly skilled archer and swordsman.
