Westminster School, Adelaide
Westminster School is an independent, Uniting Church, Early Learning to Year 12, coeducational, day and boarding school located at Marion, South Australia, 12 km south of Adelaide. Founded as a Methodist day and boarding school for boys, the school was opened by the Prime Minister Robert Menzies in 1961 and is named after Westminster School in London. The school became co-educational in 1978, and has a current enrolment of around 1150 students. History Westminster School was born out of a perceived need by the Methodist Church in South Australia for a day and boarding school in Adelaide to accommodate demand additional to that satisfied by the long-established Methodist-based school Prince Alfred College. Shirley Jeffries
Sir Shirley Williams Jeffries (28 February 1886 – 13 September 1963) was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly in three stints over twenty five years and an Australian rules footballer in the South Australian Football League (SAFL). Early life Born in Crompton, Lancashire to William Jeffries, a Wesleyan minister, and his wife Mercy, née Wibmer, one of three sons and three daughters. The Jeffries family emigrated to Australia in 1890 and settled in South Australia in 1898 where William Jeffries served as President of the South Australian Methodist Conference. Jeffries attended Prince Alfred College and the University of Adelaide where he graduated with a law degree in 1906, was admitted to the Bar in 1910 and practiced as a lawyer, firstly with Fisher, Jeffries, Brebner & Taylor and later with Fisher, Powers and Jeffries. Nick Cullen
Nick Cullen (born 10 April 1984) is an Australian professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Cullen played on the Canadian Tour in 2010 and has played on the PGA Tour of Australasia since 2011. He earned his first professional win at the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open on the OneAsia Tour in March 2012. He also qualified for the 2012 Open Championship through International Final Qualifying. The Australia men's national cricket team represents Australia in men's international cricket. Dan Cullen
Daniel James Cullen (born 10 April 1984) is a former Australian first-class cricketer who played for South Australia and Somerset in a career that lasted from 2004 to 2009. He was a right-arm off break bowler who appeared six times for Australia, and was touted as a promising prospect to replace Shane Warne. However, a number of unproductive seasons meant that he lost his national contract in 2008, and was dropped by South Australia in 2010, ending his first-class career. He first appeared for South Australia in 2004, and after two strong seasons for South Australia, he was selected to tour Bangladesh with the national team in April 2006. First Class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Cullen Benjamin Bailey (born 26 February 1985 in Bedford Park, South Australia, Bedford Park, Adelaide) is a former Australian First Class cricketer. He is a leg-spin bowler, who represented Southern Redbacks, South Australia in the Ryobi Cup and Sheffield Shield, the Australian domestic cricket competitions. He played for Glenelg Cricket Club, Glenelg in the South Australian Grade Cricket League, Adelaide Grade Cricket competition, having previously captained Sturt Cricket Club, Sturt where he won a premiership in his last year at the club in 2009/10. Thomas Edmonds (tenor)
Thomas James Edmonds, ( AM, BA, DipEd, DipT, MACE), is an Australian singer who was born in South Australia, Australia. He graduated from the University of Adelaide and the Adelaide Teachers College with a Diploma of Teaching and Education and a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1961 he became a foundation member of the staff of Westminster School in Marion, and in 1965, he was appointed Deputy Headmaster of the School. Edmonds began his singing studies in Australia in 1960 and, in 1970, he continued both singing and education studies in England and Europe. David Hone
David Jeremy Hone (born 30 June 1946) is an Australian former sportsman who played first-class cricket with Oxford University Cricket Club, Oxford University and Australian rules football for Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Hone spent the 1969 VFL season with the Melbourne Football Club as an amateur, and played 18 of a possible 20 games during year, mostly as a defender. An honours graduate from Monash University, Hone chose to continue his studies in England and became a student at Worcester College, Oxford, in 1970. His father Brian Hone had been a famous educator.
