Westminster Live
''Westminster Live'' was a weekly television programme focusing on political developments within the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The programme began on 21 November 1989 on the same day as television cameras were first allowed into the House of Commons. The programme lasted until 20 December 2002 when it was discontinued, and succeeded by the ''Daily Politics''. The programme was presented by Nick Robinson and Iain Macwhirter. Robinson left the BBC to join ITV and Macwhirter went on to report on the Scottish Parliament in '' Holyrood Live''. The first presenter was Vivian White and later hosts included Nick Ross and Diana Madill. The programme was originally presented from a small studio opposite the Houses of Parliament, but in later years it came from the BBC's nearby Millbank base. Current Affairs (news Format)
Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. This differs from regular news broadcasts that place emphasis on news reports presented for simple presentation as soon as possible, often with a minimum of analysis. It is also different from the news magazine show format in that the events are discussed immediately. The UK's BBC programmes such as '' This World'', '' Panorama'', ''Real Story'', ''BBC Scotland Investigates'', ''Spotlight'', '' Week In Week Out'', and '' Inside Out'' fit the definition. In Canada, CBC Radio produces a number of current affairs show both nationally such as '' The Current'' and ''As it Happens'' as well as regionally with morning current affairs shows such as ''Information Morning'', a focus the radio network developed in the 1970s as a way to recapture audience from television. Nick Ross
Nicholas David Ross (born 7 August 1947) is a British radio and television presenter. During the 1980s and 1990s he was one of the most ubiquitous of British broadcasters but is best known for hosting the BBC TV programme ''Crimewatch'', which he left in 2007 after 23 years. He has subsequently filmed a series for BBC One called ''The Truth About Crime'' and has made documentaries for BBC Radio 4. He is chairman, president, trustee or patron of a number of charities. Early life He was brought up in Surrey. His German Jewish father, Hans Rosenbluth, fled Germany in 1933 soon after the Nazi Party, Nazis came to power. In 1940 Rosenbluth was interned as an 'enemy alien' and sent from England to Australia on HMT Dunera, HMT ''Dunera''. This Week (BBC TV Series)
''This Week'' is a BBC One current affairs and politics TV programme, and was screened late on Thursday evenings. It was hosted by former ''Sunday Times'' editor Andrew Neil, with a panel of two commentators, one each from the right and left of the political spectrum. The show was introduced on 16 January 2003, as was the ''Daily Politics'', after a major review of BBC political programmes. It replaced the nightly ''Despatch Box'' (1998–2002), for which Neil had been the sole presenter in its later years. In February 2019, following Neil's decision to step down as host, the BBC announced that ''This Week'' would end in July 2019. The final episode aired on 18 July 2019, a live broadcast from Westminster Central Hall with an invited audience of political dignitaries and celebrities. Despatch Box
A despatch box (alternatively dispatch box) is one of several types of boxes used in government business. Despatch boxes primarily include both those sometimes known as red boxes or ministerial boxes, which are used by the Sovereign and his ministers in the British government to securely transport sensitive documents, and boxes used in the lower houses of the parliaments of the United Kingdom and Australia. The term was used as early as the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, referring to a box used to carry an important message for the Queen. These ministerial boxes, generally red, are now an iconic symbol of the United Kingdom government. Millbank
Millbank is an area of central London in the City of Westminster. Millbank is located by the River Thames, east of Pimlico and south of Westminster. Millbank is known as the location of major government offices, Burberry headquarters, the Millbank Tower and prominent art institutions such as Tate Britain and the Chelsea College of Art and Design.
