Western Australia Screen Culture Awards
The Western Australia Screen Culture Awards, also known as the WA Screen Culture Awards or WASCAs, acknowledge innovation and contributions in a wide range of screen-related artistic areas, where the work was created in Western Australia or by West Australians. The awards, launched in 2020, succeed a previous West Australian screen award series, and are presented annually. Purpose The awards recognize outstanding innovation, independent spirit and contributions in the areas of contemporary short, feature and documentary filmmaking, television, computer games, VR, AR, gallery-based moving image, installations, projections and other intersections with screen and moving image forms, created in Western Australia, or by West Australians. The West Australian Screen Awards (WASA) are film awards given out in Western Australia. The WASAs are presented by FTI (WA) FTI WA Inc., formerly the Film and Television Institute and also known as the Perth Institute of Film and Television, was a screen resource centre located in Western Australia aimed at increasing the vibrancy of the screen sector, including film .... The Awards commenced in 1987, although they were put on hold for a year in 2012, before running again from 2013 to 2016, when it was finally cancelled. The awards were significant points in the careers of a number of Australian film stars and film companies. The awards have now evolved into the WA Screen Culture Awards which commenced in 2020. Revelation Perth International Film Festival
Revelation Perth International Film Festival began in 1997. Founded by Richard Sowada to showcase a large range of independent feature films, documentaries, short films, and experimental works, it runs every July in Perth, Western Australia and is regarded as one of the best independent film festivals in Australia. History Revelation's roots are as an underground film festival started in the basement of the Greenwich Club in Perth, Western Australia. The 1997 Festival ran 24 September – 4 October. In addition to the Greenwich Club, events and screenings were held at the Luna, Picabar, and Kulcha theaters. Opening night at the Greenwich featured Beat movies, live jazz, and DJ Joe 19. Dave Callan
David Gerard Callan (born 20 September 1975) is an Irish-born stand-up comedian, who has had a career in television and radio, and is based in Melbourne, Australia. Up until 2010 he worked as a Triple J disc jockey. Biography Callan was born in Dundalk, Ireland, and arrived in Australia in 1990, aged 15. He spent part of his teenage years in Perth where he attended Chisholm Catholic College. Radio career Callan hosted the mid-dawn shift at Triple J on Sundays from 1am to 6am for most of 2005 until it was discontinued. He continued to host the Triple J show ''Pirate Radio'' from 6pm until 9pm on Saturday evenings. The show features party music, mash-ups, and many unusual regular callers referred to as 'carnies', including Steph from Tamworth, Evil Me, and Jarred from Bunbury. On 19 January 2008, Callan presented the last show of ''Pirate Radio''. On 27 January 2008, he returned to the mid-dawn shift on Sundays from 1am to 6am.
