West Virginia Route 59 was a state highway in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It ran from West Virginia Route 259 at Lost City east to the Virginia state line, where it became secondary State Route 691. About one-third of the route is unpaved. Hardy County, West Virginia
Hardy County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,299. Its county seat is Moorefield. The county was created from Hampshire County in 1786 and named for Samuel Hardy, a distinguished Virginian. History The first European known to visit this area was John Van Meter in 1725. The earliest permanent European settlements were established in the 1730s. Hardy County was formed in 1786 from Hampshire County in Virginia. It was one of fifty counties admitted to the Union as the state of West Virginia in 1863. West Virginia Route 259 (WV 259) is a state highway in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The state highway runs from the Virginia state line near Mathias north to the Virginia state line at High View. At both termini, the road continues as Virginia State Route 259 (SR 259). WV 259 passes through Hardy and Hampshire counties and runs concurrently with WV 55 on Corridor H between Baker and Wardensville. Route description WV 259 begins at the Virginia state line in southeastern Hardy County. The highway continues south into Rockingham County, Virginia as SR 259 (Brocks Gap Road) toward Broadway.
