The Heath High School shooting occurred at Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky, United States, on December 1, 1997. 14-year-old Michael Carneal opened fire on a group of students, killing three and injuring five. Shooting On December 1, 1997, Carneal wrapped a shotgun and a rifle in a blanket and took them to school, passing them off as an art project he was working on. He carried a loaded Ruger MK II .22-caliber pistol in his backpack. Carneal rode to school with his sister and arrived at approximately 7:45 a.m. When he arrived, he inserted earplugs into his ears and took the pistol out of his bag. He fired ten rounds in fast succession at a youth group of students. Three girls later died and five other students were wounded. Julian Morton Carroll (born April 16, 1931) is an American lawyer and politician from the state of Kentucky. A Democrat, he served as the 54th Governor of Kentucky from 1974 to 1979, succeeding Wendell H. Ford, who resigned to accept a seat in the U.S. Senate. He was most recently a member of the Kentucky Senate, representing Anderson, Franklin, Woodford, Gallatin and Owen counties. McCracken County Public Schools
McCracken County Public Schools (MCPS) is a school district headquartered in Hendron, unincorporated McCracken County, Kentucky. The district serves all of McCracken County except for most of the area within the city limits of Paducah, which is served by its own independent school district. However, portions of the city, especially in the west, lie within the McCracken County district, and feed either Heath or Lone Oak Middle School. There are currently eleven schools that make up the MCPS district. On August 9, 2013, a new McCracken County High School opened, combining the three previous high schools. Heath High School (Kentucky)
Heath High School was a secondary school operated by the McCracken County Public Schools district in the rural community of West Paducah, unincorporated McCracken County, Kentucky, near the largest city in the state's far-western Purchase region, Paducah. Established in 1910, the school served students in grades 9-12. It closed in June 2013 in advance of the August opening of a new McCracken County High School, which consolidates Heath, Reidland and Lone Oak High Schools.
