History When West Ouachita High School opened in the fall of 1989, it was an ultra-modern facility designed around a courtyard and amphitheater. Ouachita Parish School Board is a school district headquartered in Monroe, Louisiana, United States. The district serves Ouachita Parish except for areas within the City of Monroe; those areas are instead served by the Monroe City School System. Neal Lane "Lanny" Johnson, the superintendent for the Franklin Parish School Board in Winnsboro is a former superintendent in Ouachita Parish. Johnson also served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1976-1980. He was defeated in a bid for the State Senate in the 1979 nonpartisan blanket primary. Dan Richey, then of Ferriday, won the seat after Johnson, a Democrat, was eliminated in the primary. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) is the agency that regulates and promotes the interscholastic athletic competitions of all high schools in the state of Louisiana. Organization LHSAA was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in October 1920. The LHSAA's main office was in Hammond from 1953 until 1972, when it returned to Baton Rouge. Zachary Layne Watson (born June 25, 1997) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Lexington Counter Clocks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 3rd round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. Amateur career Watson attended West Ouachita High School in West Monroe, Louisiana where he played baseball. He played shortstop and was the team's closer. As a senior, he batted .481 with ten home runs, 46 RBIs, and 18 doubles and was named the All-Northeast Louisiana Big School Offensive Player of the Year for the third year in a row as West Ouachita finished as the Class 4A state runner-up. He was not drafted out of high school in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft and he enrolled at Louisiana State University where he played college baseball for the LSU Tigers.
