West College Avenue Historic District is a national Historic district (United States), historic district located at Hartsville, South Carolina, Hartsville, Darlington County, South Carolina. The district encompasses 22 contributing buildings in a primarily residential section of Hartsville. They were constructed between about 1906 to about 1930, with the majority constructed between 1910 and 1926. They illustrate a period of significant development which saw the town's population increase more than five times its size at the turn of the 20th century. Hartsville, South Carolina
Hartsville is the largest city in Darlington County, South Carolina, United States. It was chartered on December 11, 1891. The population was 7,764 at the 2010 census. Hartsville was chosen as an All-America City in 1996 and again in 2016. Hartsville has also been a National Arbor Day Foundation Tree City since 1986. Hartsville is home of Coker University and a branch of Florence–Darlington Technical College. Victorian architecture is a series of architectural revival styles in the mid-to-late 19th century. ''Victorian'' refers to the reign of Queen Victoria (1837–1901), called the Victorian era, during which period the styles known as Victorian were used in construction. However, many elements of what is typically termed "Victorian" architecture did not become popular until later in Victoria's reign, roughly from 1850 and later. The Colonial Revival architectural style seeks to revive elements of American colonial architecture.
