West Coast, Singapore
West Coast is a subzone located in the town of Clementi, the western part of Singapore. The subzone currently lies in the West Coast GRC. History West Coast was created out of reclaimed land in the 1970s. Despite both being created out of reclaimed land, the east became a recreational area but the west was filled with industries. The western part of West Coast is largely industrial but the eastern and central parts of the area are mostly filled with private housing along with a single HDB estate. Amenities Commercial Facilities Few amenities exist in the vicinity of private houses and condominiums along West Coast, such as Clementiwoods and Terra Hill. However, a town centre exists in the heart of the HDB housing estate. Clementi, Singapore
Clementi (, ;) is a planning area and residential town located at the easternmost fringe of the West Region of Singapore. The town borders Bukit Batok to the north, Bukit Timah to the northeast, Queenstown to the east and Jurong East to the west. Etymology "Clementi" derives its name from 'Clementi Road', the main traffic route that still runs into the district to this day. It was once known as 'Reformatory Road' as there was a boys' home situated along the road. In 1947, the Singapore Rural Board discussed renaming the road. Their original intention was to name it after Sir Hugh Clifford, but it was eventually named as Clementi Road. It is generally suggested that the road was named after Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, who was the first British High Commissioner in the Straits Settlements. Teban Gardens is a residential precinct located in Jurong East, Singapore. Immediately north of Pandan Reservoir, it comprises exclusively public housing built by the JTC Corporation and Housing and Development Board. Geography The Teban Gardens estate is situated within the town of Jurong East. The main road servicing the estate is Teban Gardens Road. Teban Gardens was originally a patch of mangrove swamp bordering on the Sungai Pandan area but was subsequently reclaimed to make way for housing development projects by the JTC Corporation in 1970. S. Iswaran ( ta, எஸ் ஈஸ்வரன்; born 1962) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Minister for Transport since 2021 and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations since 2018. The Japanese School Singapore
is a Japanese international school in Singapore, covering elementary and junior high school levels. There are two separate elementary schools of the JSS in Clementi and Changi, while junior high school division is located in West Coast. As of 2013 this Japanese international school is the largest overseas Japanese school in the world. History The original school was founded in 1912 and opened at 131 Middle Road. At the time, one teacher taught 28 students. A new school built by The Japan Club, now known as The Japanese Association, opened at 155 Waterloo Street in 1920. Commonwealth Secondary School (abbreviation: CWSS) is a government, autonomous and coeducational secondary school in Jurong East, Singapore. Founded in 1964, Commonwealth Secondary School offers secondary school education which leads to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level or Singapore-Cambridge GCE Normal Level examination. Tanglin Secondary School Commonwealth Secondary School began as Tanglin Integrated Vocational Secondary School in 1964 and became an academic institution named Tanglin Secondary in 1969. In 1972, the name was changed again to Commonwealth Secondary School since it was situated near Commonwealth Drive.
