West Adelaide Soccer Club
West Adelaide Soccer Club is an Australian soccer club currently playing in the South Australian State League 1. Traditionally named Hellas, the club was founded by members of the Greek community of Adelaide. West Adelaide became a founding member of the National Soccer League in 1977 and a year later became the first Adelaide team to be crowned national champion when it won the 1978 National Soccer League after a 1–1 draw in the final round match with Adelaide City in the local derby. One of the most successful clubs in South Australia, West Adelaide competed in the national league for 19 seasons, interrupted briefly by two short periods in which it was relegated back to state competition. In the late 1990s, the club renamed itself the Adelaide Sharks in an effort to attract support beyond its traditional base in the Greek community. Maccabi Hakoah Sydney City East FC, commonly known as Maccabi Hakoah, is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The club was formed in 1939 as Sydney Hakoah by members of Sydney's Jewish community. They played between 1977 and 1986 in the National Soccer League as Eastern Suburbs (1977–1979) and Sydney City (1979–1987). One of the most successful sides in New South Wales and interstate competitions in the 1960s and early 1970s coached by the now retired Bob Szatmari, Hakoah were also one of the main instigators for the establishment of a national league. Thebarton Oval
Thebarton Oval is a sports ground in Adelaide, South Australia currently used for a variety of sports including Australian rules football. It was the home ground of South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club West Torrens between 1922 and 1989, and since 2008 has been the home of the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) now called the Adelaide Footy League. The SANFL was granted 5 million dollars from the State Government towards developing Thebarton Oval for South Australian Football in 2020 however, controversially, and at odds with local residents in 2022 the Australian Football League (a body based in Melbourne which changed its name from the Victorian Football League in 1990) member, the Adelaide Crows Football Club are moving to take over Thebarton Oval, demolish the Bob Hank Stand and remove the Oval and neighboring Kings Park to build their facilities, which is being supported by the West Torrens Council Mayor Michael Coxon. Raul Blanco
Raúl Blanco (born 4 December 1941) is an Argentine-born Australian Association football coach and former player. Blanco was born in Buenos Aires. He is well known for coaching the Socceroos from March 1998 to June 1999. He was also coaching the Olyroos (Under-23 side) at the same time, and coached them during the 2000 Summer Olympics. Blanco was also employed by New Zealand Football as a technical assistant in their successful campaign to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa while coaching Macarthur Rams. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional sports, professional competition of Australian rules football. Hindmarsh Stadium (currently known as Coopers Stadium due to sponsorship from Adelaide-based company Coopers Brewery) is a multi-purpose stadium in Hindmarsh, an inner western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is the home of the Australian A-League team, Adelaide United. The stadium has a capacity of 16,500, of which 15,000 is seated, and is home to professional football (soccer) A-League team Adelaide United, who regularly fill this capacity, and averaged crowds of over 12,000 to its matches during the 2006-07 season and 2007-08 season.
