Welsh Football Pyramid
The Welsh football league system (or pyramid) is a series of football leagues with regular promotion and relegation between them. While most Welsh clubs play in the Welsh pyramid and most clubs in that pyramid are Welsh, five Welsh clubs play in England, and four English clubs play in Wales. Structure of Welsh football Tier 1: Cymru Premier At the top is the Cymru Premier, which is the only national league in Wales and is run by the Football Association of Wales. Tier 2: Cymru North and Cymru South Since 2019–20, the Football Association of Wales runs the second tier for the first time after a review of the Welsh league pyramid. Tier 2 is split into a north and central Wales league, Cymru North, and a corresponding league for south Wales, Cymru South. League System
A league system is a hierarchy of leagues in a sport. They are often called pyramids, due to their tendency to split into an increasing number of regional divisions further down the system. League systems of some sort are used in many sports in many countries. Overview In association football, rugby union, rugby league and Gaelic games, league systems are usually connected by the process of promotion and relegation, in which teams from a lower division who finish at the top of the standings in their league are promoted (advanced to the next level of the system) while teams who finish lowest in their division are relegated (move down to a lower division). North Wales Coast West Football League
The North Wales Coast West Football League is a football league in Wales, at tiers 4 and 5 of the Welsh football league system in North Wales, founded in 2020. The league is under the control of the North Wales Coast Football Association. The league replaced the former Gwynedd League and Anglesey Leagues, and covers the North West of Wales. The North Gwent Football League (currently billed as The Swan EMS Limited North Gwent Football League for sponsorship reasons) is a football league in South Wales. The headquarters are located at The Ex-Servicemens Club, Ebbw Vale. The East Gwent Association Football League (currently billed as The Monmouthshire Windows East Gwent Association Football League for sponsorship reasons) is a football league covering the eastern part of the preserved country of Gwent. It is affiliated to the Gwent County Football Association. The leagues are at the seventh and eighth levels of the Welsh football league system. Area The area of the league is bordered by the River Severn/ Bristol Channel on the South and the River Wye on the East to Monmouth. The league area continues west to include Raglan then following a line south to, but not including Llanwern, then on to the River Severn/ Bristol Channel. The Newport and District Football League (currently billed as The Monmouthshire Building Society Newport and District Football League for sponsorship reasons) is a football league covering the city of Newport and surrounding areas in South Wales. Mid Wales League
The Central Wales Football League ''(formerly the Mid Wales Football League)'' is a football league in Wales at tier 4 of the Welsh Football pyramid, run by the Central Wales Football Association. The league consists of two regionally based divisions - a North Division and a South Division. The league offers a promotion route to the Football Association of Wales administered Tier 3 Ardal Leagues. The Aberystwyth & District Football League (known as the ''Cynghrair Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League'') is a football league in Mid Wales, sitting at the fifth level of the Welsh football league system. Mid Wales South League
The Mid Wales South League is an association football league, currently consisting of five clubs, mainly from Mid Wales but some from just over the border in England. It is currently called the ''Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South)'' for sponsorship reasons. The founder members of the league were Brecon St John's, Felindre, Llandrindod Wells, Llanwrthwl, Llanwrtyd, Presteigne St. Andrew's, Rhayader Town and Whitton. Felindre were the first league champions. The league lies in the fifth level of the Welsh football league system. Teams may be promoted to the Mid Wales Football League if standards and facilities fall into line with the regulations of the Mid Wales League. Ceredigion League
The Ceredigion League (known as ''The Costcutter Ceredigion League'' for sponsorship purposes) is a Welsh football league for the county of Ceredigion. It is at the fifth level of the Welsh football league system. It was founded in 1921 as the Cardiganshire League in Lampeter. The ten founding teams were Aberaeron, Aberystwyth Battery, Conservative FC, College Reserves, Drefach, Lampeter, Llanybydder, Newcastle Emlyn, Padarn United and Parish Hall United. South Wales Alliance League
The South Wales Alliance League is a football league structure in South Wales, currently known for sponsorship reasons as ''The Highadmit Projects South Wales Alliance League''. The top tier of the league, the Premier Division is at the fourth tier of the Welsh Football Pyramid and offers promotion opportunities to the tier 3 Football Association of Wales administered Ardal Leagues. The league is run by the South Wales Football Association. The league was formed in 2015 by a merger of the South Wales Senior League and the South Wales Amateur League.
