Welsh Senior League
The Denbighshire League was a league in the early days of Welsh football. Originally titled the Welsh Senior League, it ran from 1890 until 1902. It was mainly made up of teams from the Wrexham area, with sporadic entrants from Mid Wales and the North Wales Coast. It was one of the first organised Football Leagues in Wales. Association football ( cy, pêl-droed) is one of the most popular sports in Wales, along with rugby union. Wales has produced club teams of varying fortunes since the early birth of football during the Victorian period, and in 1876 a Wales national football team played their first international match. Football has always had a close rivalry with the country's ''de facto'' national sport rugby union, and it is much discussed as to which is Wales' more popular game. Chirk AAA F
Chirk ( cy, Y Waun) is a town and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales, south of Wrexham, between it and Oswestry. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 4,468. Historically in the traditional county of Denbighshire, and later Clwyd, it has been part of Wrexham County Borough since a local government reorganisation in 1996. The border with the English county of Shropshire is immediately south of the town, on the other side of the River Ceiriog. The town is served by Chirk railway station and the A5/A483 roads. Broughton United FC
Broughton United was a Welsh football club based in New Broughton, Wrexham, Wales. They played their home games at Plas Power. History Formed some time in 1899 Broughton United were members of The Combination between 1903 and 1906. They also played in the Welsh Cup on five occasions, reaching the Quarter Finals three times. In 1906 the club withdrew from the Combination due to financial difficulties. Instead the club was due to enter the Wrexham and District League, however they do not appear in the final tables for the 1906-07 season. By 1907 the club were listed as defunct and its committee members were suspended by the Football Association of Wales. Brymbo Institute Cricket and Football Club was a multi purpose sports club based in Brymbo, Wales. History The club has its roots in the establishment of the Brymbo Institute and Reading Room, set up by non-conformist and Victorian industrialist William Darby. Ruabon ( cy, Rhiwabon ) is a village and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales.
