Wellsboro, Pennsylvania
Wellsboro is a borough in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The borough was founded by Benjamin Wistar Morris. It is located northwest of Williamsport. The population was 3,472 at the 2020 census. Early in the 20th century, Wellsboro was the shipping point and trade center for a large area. It had fruit evaporators, flour and woolen mills, a milk-condensing plant, marble works, saw mills, foundry and machine shops, and manufactories of cut glass, chemicals, rugs, bolts, cigars, carriages, and furniture. In 1900, 2,945 people lived here; in 1910, 3,183 lived here. It is the county seat of Tioga County, and also home to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. History Wellsboro was settled in 1806 and incorporated in 1830 and was named in honor of Mary Wells, wife of one of the original settlers, Benjamin Wistar Morris. The town was the home of George W. Mary Wells Morris
Mary Wells Morris (September 4, 1764 – November 6, 1819) is the person that Wellsboro, Pennsylvania is named after. She was born in Burlington County, New Jersey. She moved to Tioga County with her husband Benjamin, her son Samuel, and her daughter Rebecca. Wellsboro Armory
Wellsboro Armory, is a historic National Guard armory located in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, in Tioga County. It was built in 1932 for the Company I, 103rd Medical Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard. The armory consists of a brick building laid out on an "I" plan, with a two-story drill hall sandwiched between a two-story administrative section and two-story garage. The Wellsboro Armory was formerly home to Charlie Company 3/103rd AR before the unit moved to Mansfield, PA to join the ranks with D 3/103rd. Delta was later disbanded. Charlie Company relocated to 1810 Shumway Hill Rd in 2003. The former building still exists but is not used for that purpose anymore. It is the headquarters for Charlie Company 3/103rd AR. Jesse Robinson House (Wellsboro, Pennsylvania)
Jesse Robinson House, or Jesse Robinson Manor, is a historic home located at Wellsboro in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a three-story Queen Anne style house built in 1888, designed by Elmira architects Pierce & Dockstader for Jesse Robinson. It features a steeply pitched roof, specially cut wood shingle siding in the dormer areas, and a wrap-around, lattice-trimmed porch. The house features two prominent balconies and many stained glass windows. The house has been a hospital in the past and privately owned by several owners. The Adirondack Park is a part of New York's Forest Preserve in northeastern New York, United States. The park was established in 1892 for “the free use of all the people for their health and pleasure”, and for watershed protection. George Washington Sears (December 2, 1821 – May 1, 1890) was a sportswriter for ''Forest and Stream'' magazine in the 1880s and an early conservationist. His stories, appearing under the pen name "Nessmuk", popularized self-guided canoe camping tours of the Adirondack lakes in open, lightweight solo canoes and what is today called ultralight camping or ultralight backpacking. Canoeing had been popularized by Scottish lawyer John MacGregor in the 1860s, but the typical canoe trip of the day employed expert guides and heavy canoes. Sears, who was tall and had a , solo canoe built by J. Henry Rushton of Canton, New York.
