Jesse Robinson House (Wellsboro, Pennsylvania)
Jesse Robinson House, or Jesse Robinson Manor, is a historic home located at Wellsboro in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a three-story Queen Anne style house built in 1888, designed by Elmira architects Pierce & Dockstader for Jesse Robinson. It features a steeply pitched roof, specially cut wood shingle siding in the dormer areas, and a wrap-around, lattice-trimmed porch. The house features two prominent balconies and many stained glass windows. The house has been a hospital in the past and privately owned by several owners. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Wellsboro, Pennsylvania
Wellsboro is a borough in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The borough was founded by Benjamin Wistar Morris. It is located northwest of Williamsport. The population was 3,472 at the 2020 census. Early in the 20th century, Wellsboro was the shipping point and trade center for a large area. It had fruit evaporators, flour and woolen mills, a milk-condensing plant, marble works, saw mills, foundry and machine shops, and manufactories of cut glass, chemicals, rugs, bolts, cigars, carriages, and furniture. In 1900, 2,945 people lived here; in 1910, 3,183 lived here. It is the county seat of Tioga County, and also home to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Pierce & Bickford was an American architectural firm active in Elmira, New York from 1891 to 1932. It was formed as the partnership of architects of Joseph H. Pierce (1855-1932) and Hiram H. Queen Anne Style Architecture In The United States
Queen Anne style architecture was one of a number of popular Victorian architectural styles that emerged in the United States during the period from roughly 1880 to 1910. Popular there during this time, it followed the Second Empire and Stick styles and preceded the Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle styles. Sub-movements of Queen Anne include the Eastlake movement. The style bears almost no relationship to the original Queen Anne style architecture in Britain (a toned-down version of English Baroque that was used mostly for gentry houses) which appeared during the time of Queen Anne, who reigned from 1702 to 1714, nor of Queen Anne Revival (which appeared in the latter 19th century there). Tioga County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 41,045. Its county seat is Wellsboro. The county was created on March 26, 1804, from part of Lycoming County and later organized in 1812. It is named for the Tioga River.
