Carabao (band)
Carabao ( th, คาราบาว) is a Thai rock band that is very popular in Thailand and other Asian countries. The group was formed in 1981 by university students Yuenyong Opakul ( Aed) and Kirati Promsaka Na Sakon Nakhon (Keo or Khiao) who met while studying at Mapúa Institute of Technology in the Philippines. The word ''carabao'' means "buffalo", a symbol of fighting, hard work, and patience. They are known for their Phleng phuea chiwit (เพลงเพื่อชีวิต) or 'songs for life'. This kind of music came to prominence through the protest songs of the 1970s political upheaval in Thailand, especially from the band Caravan. Carabao have blended the acoustic/folk style of 'peua chiwit' with other forms of Thai music, western rock and country music, and various kinds of world music like Latin music and reggae, earning such labels as 'ethnic rockers' and 'Kings of 3Cha' or 'Rolling Stones of Asia'. Thai pop or T-pop, is a genre of Thai music roughly equivalent to western pop. Thap Lang
The ''klong thap'' ( th, กลองทับ, ) is a goblet-shaped drum used for providing the changes of rhythm and also for supporting rhythm of the Nora (Southern dance drama). Its length is about 40-50 centimeters. The body is made from heartwood of a jackfruit tree that has been carved into a goblet shape. A single drumhead is a thin leather membrane made from langur skin or cat skin, which is attached to the body by cloth strings or rattan strings. Thai rock is rock music from Thailand. Thai rock was influenced by rock bands from the United States and United Kingdom. Emerging in the 1980s it flourished with bands like Asanee-Wasan and Micro. It became widely popular in the 1990s. 1970s Rock music emerged from the United States from a Blues rock base, gaining international popularity in the 1960s with bands like The Doors and musician Jimi Hendrix. The Thai rock genre began by Laem Morrison who performed for American soldiers during the Vietnam war.
