''Weather Center'' (originally ''WeatherScope'') was a news and weather program produced by The Weather Channel (United States), The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially, ''Weather Center'' was the lone program for The Weather Channel. By 2000, the show had started being significantly pared down. By the end of 2008, ''Weather Center'' only aired for one hour a day during the week and two hours on weekends. The 4pm hour of ''Weather Center'' (2006 to 2009) was replaced by ''PM Edition''. History In 1995, The Weather Channel introduced ''WeatherScope'', a show aired every 30 minutes, which featured the day's top weather stories, weather forecast, forecasts and severe weather coverage. The Weather Channel
The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by Weather Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Allen Media Group. The channel's headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. Launched on May 2, 1982, the channel broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis, along with documentaries and entertainment programming related to weather. A sister network, Weatherscan, was a digital cable and satellite service that offered 24-hour automated local forecasts and radar imagery. Weatherscan was officially shut down on December 9, 2022. The Weather Channel also produces outsourced weathercasts, notably for CBS News and RFD-TV. The Weather Channel was a subsidiary of the Weather Company until the latter was bought by IBM in 2016. Severe weather is any dangerous meteorological phenomenon with the potential to cause damage, serious social disruption, or loss of human life. Vivian Brown (meteorologist)
Vivian Louise Brown is an American television meteorologist who worked for The Weather Channel. She most recently co-hosted Weather Center Live from noon to 3pm on weekdays. Brown was with The Weather Channel from 1986 to 2015. Brown formerly co-hosted Day Planner until it was cancelled in 2013 and replaced by the all-day form of Weather Center Live. Early life and education Brown was born in Greenville, Mississippi but then later moved to Jackson, Mississippi in her teen years. Brown graduated with a degree in meteorology from Jackson State University in 1986. Career In her 29-year career with The Weather Channel, Brown hosted Afternoon Outlook from 2003 to 2006, PM Edition Weekend from 2006 to 2010, Day Planner from 2010 to 2013, and Weather Center Live from 2013 to 2015. Cable In The Classroom
Cable in the Classroom was an American division of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association that assisted the cable television industry in providing educational content to schools. The organization was founded in 1989. A Canadian organization, also called "Cable in the Classroom" ("La câblo-éducation" in French), was founded in 1995, and held the same scope as the US organization. Cable stations broadcast educational television programs at specific times (usually early in the morning) commercial-free and notified Cable in the Classroom as to when the shows would air, which maintained a master list for educators to reference. This way, educators were able to record the programs for free and use them in school as learning tools for children. Copyrights were cleared so that educators could use the content of the listed programs as they wished for their syllabus and learning plans. ''The Weather Classroom'' is an educational program for children that aired on The Weather Channel from 1993 to 2007. It was part of the Cable in the Classroom initiative, and aired at a time when the show could be recorded for later showings in the classroom. Reruns aired until 2013. Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the conditions of the atmosphere for a given location and time. People have attempted to predict the weather informally for millennia and formally since the 19th century. Weather forecasts are made by collecting quantitative data about the current state of the atmosphere, land, and ocean and using meteorology to project how the atmosphere will change at a given place. Once calculated manually based mainly upon changes in barometric pressure, current weather conditions, and sky condition or cloud cover, weather forecasting now relies on computer-based models that take many atmospheric factors into account.
