Grand Slam (curling)
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. The Grand Slam season consists of six men's and women's events. The original four events (Masters, Open, National, and Players' Championship) are considered to be "majors". The other two slams (Tour Challenge and Champions Cup) have unique formats that set them apart from other events on the World Curling Tour. Chelsey Bell
Chelsey Matson (née Bell) (born September 1, 1982) is a Canadian curler. Career Matson was the long-time lead for Stefanie Lawton. She played for her at the 2001 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and at the 2005 Scott Tournament of Hearts. However, it was in 2003 when playing lead for Lawton's sister, Marliese Kasner that she won the Canadian and World Junior Curling Championships. She was named the all-star lead at the World Juniors that year. Matson left the Lawton team in 2007 to play with Kleibrink. With Kleibrink, Bell has shared several successes, including winning the Casinos of Winnipeg Grand Slam in October 2007 and the 2008 Alberta Provincial Championship in January 2008. Terri Lynn Sauson, known professionally as Terri Clark (born August 5, 1968) is a Canadian country music singer who has had success in both Canada and the United States. Signed to Mercury Records in 1995, she released her self-titled debut that year. Both it and its two follow-ups, 1996's ''Just the Same'' and 1998's '' How I Feel'', were certified platinum in both countries, and produced several Top Ten country hits. Samantha Preston
Samantha Preston (born December 15, 1984, in Calgary, Alberta) is a Canadian curler. Career 2009–current In 2009, Preston, as part of team Webster, was the first qualifier at the Canadian Olympic Pre-Trials. The team surprised many, winning the A final over former World Champion Kelly Scott. At the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, the Webster rink finished with a 2–5 record. To date, the Webster team has only won two Women's World Curling Tour events, the DEKALB Superspiel in 2009 and the Colonial Square Ladies Classic in 2011. Preston was a participant at the Grand Slam 2010 Players' Championships where the team lost to fellow Albertan Cheryl Bernard. At the 2012 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts the team qualified out of the fourth qualified for the playoffs. Deanna Doig
Deanna Doig (born March 13, 1972 in Bethune, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan. Career Doing has been active on the World Curling Tour since the 2005–06 season, when she joined the Heather Rankin rink as her third. In their first season, the team played in the 2006 Canada Cup of Curling, finishing with a 1–4 record. The next season, the team played in several Grand Slam events, making the quarterfinals at the 2006 Trail Appliances Autumn Gold Curling Classic. The following season, the team played made it to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic and went 0–5 at the 2008 Canada Cup of Curling. In 2008, Doig joined the Michelle Englot rink as her third. The team would win Doig's lone career Grand Slam title at the 2008 Casinos of Winnipeg Classic. Heather Rankin (curler)
Heather Rankin (born April 30, 1965) is a Canadian curler from Calgary. While living in Nova Scotia, she won the provincial junior championships in 1984 and would skip the Nova Scotia team at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships. In 1990 she won the Nova Scotia provincial championships sending her to that year's Tournament of Hearts. She skipped the Nova Scotia team to a 9-2 record in her debut winning the all-star skip award, but lost the final to Ontario, skipped by Alison Goring. Rankin returned to the Tournament of Hearts once again in 1993, playing third for Colleen Jones. The team finished with a 6-5 record 1 game out of the playoffs. Rankin moved to Calgary c. 1997 to start a computer consulting business with her husband. Since the move, she tried unsuccessfully to win that province's championship with a runner up finish at the 2001 Alberta Scott Tournament of Hearts. Jill Thurston (born December 2, 1971) is a Canadian curler. She skipped her own team out of the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Career Juniors Thurston would represent Manitoba at the 1991 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Her team consisting of Jennifer Jones, Kristie Moroz and Kelly MacKenzie would finish first place in round robin play, with a 10-1 finish. The team would get a bye into the final, however they would end up losing to New Brunswick's Heather Smith. 1997–2007 Thurston was a participant at the 1997 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, which was won by Sandra Schmirler. Janet Harvey
Janet Harvey (born March 28, 1967 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler. In 1984, Harvey played second for Darcy Kirkness at that year's Canadian Junior Curling Championships. The team won the tournament, however there were no Worlds for women until 1988.
