Waterloo Indians
The Waterloo Indians were a minor league baseball team that played from 1977 to 1988 in the Midwest League. They played their home games at Riverfront Stadium and were affiliated with the Cleveland Indians. They were located in Waterloo, Iowa Waterloo is a city in and the county seat of Black Hawk County, Iowa, United States. Midwest League
The Midwest League is a Minor League Baseball league established in 1947 and based in the Midwestern United States. A Class A league for most of its history, the league was promoted to High-A as part of Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The Midwest League began as the Illinois State League (1947–1948) and then became the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League (1949–1955). In 1956, the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League was renamed the Midwest League. The circuit temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the High-A Central before reassuming its original moniker in 2022. The Lansing Lugnuts and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers franchises jointly have won the most Midwest League championships, with nine each. Ken Bolek
Ken Bolek (born December 20, 1953) is a former minor league baseball coach, major league coach and minor league manager. He was the director of baseball at IMG Academy, a high level training school for elite baseball players from all levels of amateur and professional competition. Bolek attended the University of Arizona and Mississippi State University. In 1975, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named a league all-star. Bolek got his start in coaching with Cuyahoga Community College in 1979 and 1980. During his tenure there, they were Ohio Junior College champions. At Mississippi State University in 1981, Bolek was a graduate assistant for the team as they made it to the College World Series. Glenn Adams
Glenn Charles Adams (born October 4, 1947) is a former designated hitter and corner outfielder in Major League Baseball. He played for the San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins, and Toronto Blue Jays in a career spanning eight seasons. Amateur career Adams attended and played college baseball at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1967, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named a league all-star. Adams was the first-round pick in the 1968 amateur draft of the Houston Astros (fourth pick overall). Professional career After four seasons in the Astros minor league system, Adams reached AAA but was released in January 1972. He missed the 1972 season but signed with the San Francisco Giants after the 1972 season ended. Riverfront Stadium is a stadium in Waterloo, Iowa, located at 850 Park Road, Waterloo, Iowa 50703. It is primarily used for baseball, serving as the home field of the Waterloo Bucks baseball team of the summer collegiate Northwoods League. Riverfront Stadium has a capacity of 5,000. History Riverfront Stadium was built as Municipal Stadium in 1946. The stadium served as minor league baseball home to Waterloo Hawks teams in the Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League (1946–1956) and the Midwest League (1958–1993). Steve Swisher
Steven Eugene Swisher (born August 9, 1951) is an American former professional baseball player and minor league manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher for the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Diego Padres from 1974 to 1982. Swisher was elected to the 1976 National League All-Star team with the Cubs but did not play in the game. He is the father of former MLB first baseman Nick Swisher. College Swisher attended Ohio University for a degree in education and played baseball. During his freshman season, the team went to the College World Series. Swisher was named an all-Mid-American Conference player for three of his seasons. Major league career Swisher was drafted in the first round in June 1973 by the Chicago White Sox. Gomer Hodge
Harold Morris "Gomer" Hodge (April 3, 1944 – May 13, 2007) was an American professional baseball player, coach and manager. He appeared in 80 Major League Baseball games primarily as a pinch hitter for the Cleveland Indians in 1971. Born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, Hodge was signed by the Indians in 1963, and spent the next eight seasons in the minor leagues. He joined the Indians in 1971, hitting four times in his first four at bats and becoming a fan favorite of the team. After a full season with the Indians, he was demoted back to the minor leagues, served as a player-coach for one season and, after retiring as a ballplayer, became a coach in the Indians organization. He then served as a manager and coach for teams in the Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, and Boston Red Sox organizations until his death in 2007.
