Water Polo In Spain
The Spanish water polo league is divided into divisions. The top teams play in the División de Honor. In each division, a team plays all other teams twice, once at home and once away. The Spanish league teams compete in Europe under the Ligue Européenne de Natation, most notably in the LEN Euroleague and LEN Cup, and previously in the LEN Cup Winners' Cup. The teams also compete in a domestic cup competition each year, called the Copa del Rey. The winners of the División de Honor play against the winners of the Copa del Rey in the Supercopa de España de Waterpolo (Super Cup). División De Honor De Waterpolo
The Spanish water polo championship has been contested since 1912. The current league format was introduced in 1965. The top division is currently known as the División de Honor and consists of twelve clubs. The current champions (2021–22 season) are CN Atlètic-Barceloneta from Barcelona. Competition Format The División de Honor season takes place between October and May, with every team playing each other home and away for a total of 22 matches. Points are awarded according to the following: *3 points for a win *1 points for a draw The team with the highest number of points at the end of 22 rounds of matches become champions. Promotion and relegation The bottom team in the standings at the end of the season is relegated to Primera División, while the top team from Primera División is promoted. The Spain women's national water polo team represents Spain in women's international water polo competitions and it is controlled by Real Federación Española de Natación. Spain has won one World and three European Championships, making them one of the most successful women's water polo teams in the last decade. The División de Honor Femenina de Waterpolo is the premier category in the Spanish women's water polo league. Founded in 1988 as Primera División (it took the current name in 2000). It is actually contested by ten teams. Competition Format The División de Honor season takes place between October and May, with every team playing each other home and away for a total of 22 matches. Supercopa de España is the Spanish water polo's tournament. It is played as a single match between the League's champion and the Copa del Rey's winner. If a same team wins League and Cup, the Supercopa is played between the League's champion and the Copa's runners-up. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal.
