Warsaw Community Unit School District 316 is a school district headquartered in Warsaw, Illinois. It operates two schools, Warsaw Elementary School and Warsaw High School. Students at the junior high level grades 7th through 8th attend Nauvoo-Colusa Junior High School in the Nauvoo-Colusa Community Unit School District 325. History In 2007 the Warsaw school district and the Nauvoo-Colusa Community Unit School District 325 agreed to a plan in which Nauvoo-Colusa would close Nauvoo-Colusa High School and send its students to Warsaw High. In return the Warsaw district would close its junior high school and send its students to Nauvoo-Colusa Junior High School. On Tuesday February 12, 2008 voters in both districts approved the consolidation plans. Hancock County is a county in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 17,620. Its county seat is Carthage, and its largest city is Hamilton. History Hancock County was part of the "Military Tract" set aside by Congress to reward veterans of the War of 1812. Warsaw is a city in Hancock County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,607 at the 2010 census, a decline from 1,793 in 2000. The city is notable for its historic downtown and the Warsaw Brewery, which operated for more than 100 years beginning in 1861 and, after renovation, reopened as a bar, restaurant and microbrewery in 2006. History The city of Warsaw began in 1812, when young Major Zachary Taylor founded Fort Edwards on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River across from the mouth of the Des Moines River. Fort Johnson was occupied only for a few weeks before it was burned. In 1815 another military camp, Fort Edwards, was built nearby at a different location. Warsaw High School, or WHS, is a public four-year high school located in Warsaw, Illinois, a small city in Hancock County in the Midwestern United States. WHS serves the communities of Warsaw, Basco, Colusa, Nauvoo, Niota, Sutter and Tioga. The campus is located north of Quincy, west of Macomb and serves a mostly rural residential community. The West Central Conference is a high school conference in western central Illinois. The conference participates in athletics and activities in the Illinois High School Association. The conference comprises 11 small public high schools and 1 private high school with enrollments between 120-590 students in Adams, Hancock, McDonough, Pike, and Warren counties.
