Warsaw High School, or WHS, is a public four-year high school located in Warsaw, Illinois, a small city in Hancock County in the Midwestern United States. WHS serves the communities of Warsaw, Basco, Colusa, Nauvoo, Niota, Sutter and Tioga. The campus is located north of Quincy, west of Macomb and serves a mostly rural residential community. History Warsaw High School consolidated with Nauvoo-Colusa High School in 2008–2009, which itself existed as a separate high school from 1961 to 2008. Surrounding communities may have also possessed high schools at some time which were consolidated into the current WHS. Warsaw is a city in Hancock County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,607 at the 2010 census, a decline from 1,793 in 2000. The city is notable for its historic downtown and the Warsaw Brewery, which operated for more than 100 years beginning in 1861 and, after renovation, reopened as a bar, restaurant and microbrewery in 2006. History The city of Warsaw began in 1812, when young Major Zachary Taylor founded Fort Edwards on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River across from the mouth of the Des Moines River. Fort Johnson was occupied only for a few weeks before it was burned. In 1815 another military camp, Fort Edwards, was built nearby at a different location. Warsaw became an important fur trading post and one of the earliest American settlements in northern Illinois. Hamilton High School, or HHS, is a public four-year high school located at 1100 Keokuk Street in Hamilton, Illinois, a small city in Hancock County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. HHS is part of Hamilton Community Unit School District 328, which serves the communities of Hamilton and Elvaston, and also includes Hamilton Junior High School, and Hamilton Elementary School. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is an association that regulates competition of interscholastic sports and some interscholastic activities at the high school level for the state of Illinois. It is a charter member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). The IHSA regulates 14 sports for boys, 15 sports for girls, and eight co-educational non-athletic activities. More than 760 public and private high schools in the state of Illinois are members of the IHSA. The Association's offices are in Bloomington, Illinois. Niota, Illinois
Niota (also East Fort Madison, East Fort Madison Station) is an unincorporated community in Appanoose Township, Hancock County, in the U.S. state of Illinois. The community is located on the bank of the Mississippi River and is at the eastern end of the Fort Madison Toll Bridge, which connects Niota to Fort Madison, Iowa. Niota is the western terminus of Illinois Route 9 and is also served by Illinois Route 96, which is part of the Great River Road. History The community has fought Mississippi River flooding (cresting levees) through its history. In response to Upper Mississippi River flooding in April 1965, the US Coast Guard sent its ''Goldenrod'' to the community on May 3, 1965, for relief. During the July 1993 flooding, inmates helped local residents to reinforce the levees in order to save the community.
