Warrensburg (Amtrak Station)
Warrensburg station is an Amtrak train station serving the city of Warrensburg, Missouri. The current station originally opened in 1890 by the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and is built out of sandstone in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. It has seen several remodels and enlargements the most recent major change being in 1984 when the baggage section and loading platform were added. The station houses the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce visitors center. Service There are currently two trains daily to and from Kansas City, and two trains daily to and from St. Louis. Other locations are available with connections at the Kansas City and St. Louis terminals. Service to Los Angeles can be obtained through a connection at Kansas City through the ''Southwest Chief''. Warrensburg, Missouri
Warrensburg is a city in and the county seat of Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 20,313 at the 2020 census. The Warrensburg Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of Johnson County. The city is a college town as it is home to the University of Central Missouri. History Warrensburg was founded in 1835 by European-American settlers John and Martin D. Warren, who gave the town their last name. A post office called Warrensburg has been in operation since 1837. The phrase "Man's best friend" is based on a famous trial over the killing of Old Drum, a dog in shot in Warrensburg. Missouri Pacific Railroad
The Missouri Pacific Railroad , commonly abbreviated as MoPac, was one of the first railroads in the United States west of the Mississippi River. MoPac was a Class I railroad growing from dozens of predecessors and mergers. In 1967, the railroad operated 9,041 miles of road and 13,318 miles of track, not including DK&S, NO&LC, T&P, and its subsidiaries C&EI and Missouri-Illinois. Union Pacific Corporation, the parent company of the Union Pacific Railroad, agreed to buy the Missouri Pacific Railroad on January 8, 1980. Lawsuits filed by competing railroads delayed approval of the merger until September 13, 1982. Kansas City Union Station (station code: KCY) is a union station opened in 1914, serving Kansas City, Missouri, and the Kansas City metropolitan area, surrounding metropolitan area. The ''Southwest Chief'' (formerly the ''Southwest Limited'' and ''Super Chief'') is a passenger train operated by Amtrak on a route between Chicago and Los Angeles through the Midwest and Southwest via Kansas City, Albuquerque, and Flagstaff. The ''Texas Eagle'' is a daily passenger train route operated by Amtrak between Chicago and San Antonio in the central and western United States. Prior to 1988, the train was known as the ''Eagle''. Trains #21 (southbound) and 22 (northbound) also convey a sleeping car and a coach (designated internally as Trains #421 and 422) to/from the ''Sunset Limited'' between San Antonio and Los Angeles on the days that tri-weekly train operates.
