Warren Roper (footballer)
Warren Roper (born 30 September 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood Football Club, Collingwood in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. A West Perth Football Club, West Perth recruit, Roper was used as a ruckman at Collingwood. He kicked 17 goals in 1962 VFL season, 1962, with six of them coming in a win over Geelong Football Club, Geelong at Kardinia Park. Roper missed the 1964 VFL Grand Final, which Collingwood lost, although he had made appearances earlier in the season but he didn't play at all in the 1966 VFL season when Collingwood were again runners-up. Roper was captain-coach of Narrandera Football Club in the South West Football League (New South Wales) in 1970 and 1971. Roper later captain-coached Coragulac in country Victoria and was coach of Queensland Australian rules football team, Queensland at the 1979 Perth State of Origin Carnival. West Perth Football Club
The West Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Falcons, is an Australian rules football club located in Joondalup, Western Australia. West Perth competes in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW) and is the oldest existing Australian rules football club in Western Australia. Originally located at Leederville Oval, the team was relocated in 1994 to Arena Joondalup, a sports complex in the northern suburbs of Perth. The South West District Football League was a major Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. History The first recorded Australian Rules Football match in the Riverina area was on the 1st August, 1881 between Wagga Wagga and the more experienced Albury team and was played in Wagga. The South West District Football Association (SWDFL) was formed in 1913, when it superseded the Ganmain Football Association, which was formed in 1910, with all clubs moving into play in the SWDFL competition. In 1924 a South Western District Football League team played Collingwood Football Club at Narrandera with Collingwood winning, 86 to SWDFL 76. 1979 Perth State Of Origin Carnival
The 1979 Perth State of Origin Carnival was the 20th Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football competition. It was the first carnival to take place under the State of Origin format. All of the Section One finals were played on Subiaco Oval, in October. Western Australia won the final, defeating Victoria. WA's captain, Brian Peake won the Tassie Medal as the tournament's best player. The 1966 VFL season was the 70th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 23 April until 24 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the St Kilda Football Club, after it defeated by one point in the VFL Grand Final. It was St Kilda's first premiership, making it the last of the eight foundation clubs to win a premiership. Kardinia Park is a major public park located in South Geelong, Victoria. A number of public and sporting facilities are located in the park: a major AFL stadium, a secondary football oval, a cricket field, an open air swimming pool, a number of netball courts, various sporting clubrooms, and a senior citizens centre.
