Warlock
A warlock is a male practitioner of witchcraft. Etymology and terminology The most commonly accepted etymology derives ''warlock'' from the Old English '' wǣrloga'', which meant "breaker of oaths" or "deceiver" and was given special application to the devil around 1000. In early modern Scots, the word came to be used as the male equivalent of witch (which can be male or female, but has historically been used predominantly for females). The term may have become associated in Scotland with male witches due to the idea that they had made pacts with Auld Hornie (the devil) and thus had betrayed the Christian faith and broke their baptismal vows or oaths. From this use, the word passed into Romantic literature and ultimately 20th-century popular culture. A derivation from the Old Norse ''varð-lokkur'', "caller of spirits", has also been suggested, but the ''Oxford English Dictionary '' considers this implausible due to the extreme rarity of the Norse word and because forms without ... The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. The Warlocks are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1998 by the guitarist/singer Bobby Hecksher. The band's music has ranged from psychedelic rock to drone music. Warlocks (band)
Warlocks are a Norwegian Hip-hop trio formed in 1992. The group has also been heavily involved in the graffiti and b-boy scene in Oslo. The trio consists of producer Hawk and the rappers Tech Rock (André Eriksen) and Karma (Kevin Eriksen), who are twins. Warlocks released their debut album, ''Lyrical Marksmen'', on a local independent label ( Records) in 1995, and the street buzz resulted in a contract with Norway's leading rap label Tee Productions. History Tee Productions owner Tommy Tee recorded and co-produced Warlocks’ second album ''Top Notch'', and the first single off the album entered at number 3 on the Norwegian single chart. Warlock were a German heavy metal band founded in 1982 in Düsseldorf by members of the underground bands Snakebite and Beast. The band gained popularity and some commercial success in Europe in the mid-1980s, due to the personality and stage presence of lead vocalist Doro Pesch. Warlock supported successful heavy metal bands on tour, such as W.A.S.P., Judas Priest, Dio and Megadeth. By the end of the decade, Doro Pesch was the sole original member who remained in the band and she was forced to change the name to Doro for legal reasons. Doro, the band, continues to play several songs taken from the Warlock repertoire in their live shows. The band has reunited for festival appearances and special occasions since 2003, under the name Warlock 1986. Peter Warlock
Philip Arnold Heseltine (30 October 189417 December 1930), known by the pseudonym Peter Warlock, was a British composer and music critic. The Warlock name, which reflects Heseltine's interest in occultism, occult practices, was used for all his published musical works. He is best known as a composer of songs and other vocal music; he also achieved notoriety in his lifetime through his unconventional and often scandalous lifestyle. As a schoolboy at Eton College, Heseltine met the British composer Frederick Delius, with whom he formed a close friendship. After a failed student career in Oxford and London, Heseltine turned to musical journalism, while developing interests in folk-song and Elizabethan era#High culture, Elizabethan music. ''Destiny'' is an online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and previously published by Activision. ''Destiny'' is now self-published by Bungie after separating from Activision in 2019. It was released worldwide on September 9, 2014, for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles. ''Destiny'' marked Bungie's first new console franchise since the ''Halo'' series, and it was the first game in a ten-year agreement between Bungie and Activision.
