Wards Of Glasgow
The City of Glasgow is divided into a number of wards. These electoral districts, as they are also known, are used to elect councillors to Glasgow City Council. The council, composed of the elected members from each ward, provides local government services to the City of Glasgow. There are 23 wards situated within the perimeters of Glasgow City Council. Each one elects 3 or 4 councillors every five years in the Scottish local council elections. The most recent elections were held in 2022. Glasgow City Council is one of the 32 council areas for Scotland (each council containing a number of wards). The boundaries for all Scottish council areas and their sub divisional wards are regulated and regularly reviewed by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland. Linn (ward)
Linn (Ward 1) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. There are 4 councillors for the area; as of 19 November 2022, it is represented by the Scottish National Party and Scottish Labour, who have two councillors each. History In September 2022, Councillor Malcolm Cunning died. A by-election was called for 17 November. Boundaries The southernmost ward of Glasgow, Linn includes the areas of Castlemilk, Croftfoot and Simshill, those parts of Cathcart, King's Park and Muirend that are south and east of the Cathcart Circle Lines, and the separate village of Carmunnock. The ward also contains Linn Park and the Cathkin Braes. The boundaries have remained unchanged since the creation of the ward in 2007. Drumchapel/Anniesland (ward)
Drumchapel/Anniesland (Ward 14) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Since its creation in 2007 it has retained the same boundaries and returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. Boundaries Located in the far north-west of Glasgow, the ward's western boundary is with West Dunbartonshire and its northern boundary with East Dunbartonshire. Despite its name, it contains only part of the Anniesland neighbourhood (the streets to the north of Anniesland Road, and to the north of Great Western Road, east of Anniesland Cross). It contains all of Drumchapel, Netherton, Temple, Old Drumchapel, Blairdardie and High Knightswood, and part of Knightswood (streets to the east of Great Western Road and Knightswood Road). Garscadden/Scotstounhill (ward)
Garscadden/Scotstounhill (Ward 13) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Since its creation in 2007 it has retained the same boundaries and returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. Boundaries Located in the north-west of Glasgow, the ward is immediately north of the River Clyde which is its southern boundary. It is directly adjacent to the town of Clydebank (West Dunbartonshire) to the west. As its name suggests, it includes the neighbourhoods of Garscadden and Scotstounhill, as well as Yoker, Scotstoun and part of Knightswood (streets to the west of Great Western Road and Knightswood Road). Victoria Park (ward)
Victoria Park (Ward 12) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Created as Partick West in 2007 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system; the boundaries were unchanged in 2012. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward decreased in size and population, was re-named ''Victoria Park'' and returned three members. Hillhead (Ward 11) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. Anderston/City (ward)
Anderston/City/Yorkhill (Ward 10) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Created as Anderston/City in 2007, it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. The same criteria applied in 2012. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward slightly decreased in size (although slightly increased in population) and was renamed ''Anderston/City/Yorkhill'', still returning four councillors. Calton (ward)
Calton (Ward 9) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned three council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the seats increased to four due to the population having risen by 20% since it was first formed, although the boundaries did not change. Southside Central (ward)
Southside Central (Ward 8) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward population decreased but it continued to return four members. Langside (Ward 7) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned three council members, using the single transferable vote system. Govan (ward)
Govan (Ward 5) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Since its creation in 2007 it has returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. The ward's size became smaller for the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, but it continued to return four councillors. Boundaries Located south of the River Clyde, as well as central Govan (once a separate burgh which includes the neighbourhoods of Drumoyne, Ibrox, Linthouse and Plantation) the ward also includes the areas of Shieldhall, Cessnock, Kinning Park, Kingston and Tradeston.
