Ward 5 York South—Weston is a municipal electoral division in Toronto, Ontario that has been represented in the Toronto City Council since the 2018 municipal election. It was last contested in 2022, with Frances Nunziata elected councillor for the 2018–2022 term. History The ward was created in 2018 when the provincial government aligned Toronto's then-44 municipal wards with the 25 corresponding provincial and federal ridings. The current ward is an amalgamation of the old Ward 11 (western section), the old Ward 12 (eastern section). 2018 municipal election Ward 5 York South—Weston was first contested during the 2018 municipal election. Ward-12 incumbent Frank Di Giorgio, who served as budget chief under former mayor Rob Ford ran against Ward 11 incumbent and council speaker Frances Nunziata, and nine other candidates. 2006 Toronto Municipal Election
The 2006 Toronto municipal election took place on 13 November 2006 to elect a mayor and 44 city councillors in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In addition, school trustees were elected to the Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest and Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud. The election was held in conjunction with those held in other municipalities in the province of Ontario (see 2006 Ontario municipal elections). Bill Saundercook
Bill Saundercook was a city councillor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for Ward 13 Parkdale-High Park. A teacher from a family of teachers, Saundercook holds a B.Ed., M.A. and M.Ed. The 1997 Toronto municipal election was the first election held for offices in the amalgamated "megacity" of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The elections were administered by the old City of Toronto and its five suburbs within Metropolitan Toronto. The vote was held November 10, 1997, electing the mayor and 56 councillors in 28 wards who took office on January 1, 1998, the day of the amalgamation. The election resulted in a showdown between Barbara Hall, the one-term mayor of the old city of Toronto, and Mel Lastman, who had been mayor of the former Toronto suburb of North York for 25 years. The 1994 Toronto municipal election was held in November 1994 to elect councillors in Metropolitan Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and mayors, councillors and school trustees in Toronto, York, East York, North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke. Alan Tonks
Alan Tonks (born April 2, 1943) is a former Canadian politician. He was the Liberal MP for the federal riding of York South—Weston in Toronto from 2000 to 2011, and was the final Metro Toronto Chairman before the amalgamation of Metro Toronto into the new City of Toronto. Background Tonks is the son of the late Christopher Alexander Tonks (1917-2006), who was a reeve (1957-1960), deputy reeve, Board of Control member and alderman in what was first the Township and then the Borough of York (1969-1988) in Metropolitan Toronto. After graduating from York Memorial Collegiate Institute Tonks' father ran Tonks Hardware and Electric at 452 Rogers Road founded by his grandfather.
