Ward 5 (Britannia Woods, Malton) is a municipal ward located in the northeast corner of the city of Mississauga, Ontario. Carolyn Parrish represents the ward's seat on Mississauga City Council and Peel Regional Council since her election in 2014. The ward contains the communities of Malton, and the part of Hurontario (the community of Britannia) north of Eglinton Avenue. Toronto Pearson International Airport is located within the ward. Demographics According to the Canada 2006 Census, the total population of the ward was 75,415. The largest ethnic group in the ward is South Asians who make up 39.3% of the population (primarily East Indians). 28% of the population is White, 11.4% Black, 6.2% Chinese, 3.3% Filipino, 3.3% Southeast Asian, 1.8% Latin American, and 1.7% Arab. The ward has the highest percentage of visible minorities in the city. English is the largest mother tongue in the ward, with 40.4% of the ward speaking it as their native language. 2018 Peel Region Municipal Elections
Peel Region municipal elections, 2018, were part of the larger Ontario municipal elections, that took place on Monday, October 22. After ballots were cast, Patrick Brown was elected as the mayor of Brampton, Bonnie Crombie re-elected as the mayor of Mississauga and Allan Thompson re-elected as the mayor of Caledon. The election was intended to be the first ever direct election of the Peel Regional chair. However, the election of this position was cancelled after the Doug Ford government introduced The Better Local Government Act, 2018 (Bill 5) in August 2018. Bonnie Crombie ( Stack, born February 5, 1960) is a Canadian politician who has served as the 6th and current Mayor of Mississauga, Ontario since December 1, 2014. Eve Adams ( Horvat; born November 7, 1974) is a Canadian politician who served as the Member of Parliament for the federal electoral district of Mississauga—Brampton South from 2011 to 2015. Eglinton Avenue
Eglinton Avenue is a major east–west arterial thoroughfare in Toronto and Mississauga in the Canadian province of Ontario. The street begins at Highway 407 (but does not interchange with the tollway) at the western limits of Mississauga, as a continuation of Lower Baseline in Milton. It traverses the midsection of both cities and ends at Kingston Road. Eglinton Avenue is the only street to cross all six former boroughs of Metropolitan Toronto. Peel Regional Council
Peel Regional Council is the governing body of the Regional Municipality of Peel, Ontario, Canada. Formation Peel Council was formed in 1973 when the Regional Municipality of Peel was created to replace the old Peel County. It was created by the province to deal with counties with significant growth patterns. It is supposed to mimic the role of the former Metro Toronto Council.
