Kelsang Wangmo
Geshe Kelsang Wangmo is a German-born Buddhist nun, scholar, and teacher. She is the first woman to be awarded a Geshe title, considered equivalent to a Ph.D. in Buddhist philosophy. Early life She was raised in a Roman Catholic family in Lohmar, a small town between Cologne and Bonn in Germany. During her childhood, she attended church but grew uninterested in religion in her teens. After completing high school in 1989, she went on a backpacking trip. Travelling through Israel (where she stayed on a kibbutz), Turkey, Cyprus, Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan, she reached India. After visiting Kolkata, Varanasi, and Manali, Himachal Pradesh, Manali, she landed in Dharamshala. Tsering Wangmo Dhompa
Tsering Wangmo Dhompa (born 1969) is the first Tibetan female poet to be published in English. She was raised in India and Nepal. Tsering received her BA from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi. She pursued her MA from University of Massachusetts and her MFA in creative writing from San Francisco State University. She has a Ph.D. in literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz and is currently an assistant professor in the English Department at Villanova University. Mayeum Choying Wangmo Dorji
''Rani'' Mayeum Choying Wangmo Dorji was the mother of Queen Grandmother ''Ashi'' Kesang Choden of Bhutan. She was Choying Wangmo Dorji by her marriage. She is best known for designing the Flag of Bhutan. She died in 1994. Work Mayeum Choying Wangmo Dorji designed the flag at her daughter's request: Bhutan had been invited to attend the first Asian conference in New Delhi on March 23, 1947, and a flag representing Bhutan was necessitated for the occasion. Nilza Wangmo
Nilza Wangmo (born c. 1979) is an Indian restaurant owner and an enthusiast for the local food of the Ladakh region of northern India. Her work in 2019 was recognised with the highest award for women in India – Nari Shakti Puraskar. Life Wangmo was born in Alchi in about 1979 after her father died. Her mothers parents took her in and was brought up in a village named "Stok". The village is in the mountains. She went to a missionary school whilst her mother worked for an NGO on low wages. Money was tight and although she entered college there was insufficient funds to keep her there. Her father's family were inhospitable and would not allow then to user her father's house. Kunzang Dekyong Wangmo
Sera Khandro Kunzang Dekyong Wangmo (1892–1940) or Sera Kandro is considered an emanation of Yeshe Tsogyal, and in her lifetime was a Terton of Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana, a biographer and autobiographer, and a highly respected teacher. She taught Dudjom Rinpoche, Chatral Rinpoche, and the First Adzom Drukpa, Drodul Pawo Dorje, among other high lamas. Sera Khandro was born into a rich family, but ran away at the age of 14 to escape an unwanted engagement, and to follow the Vajrayana teacher Drime Ozer, who was then in Lhasa on pilgrimage from Golok in Eastern Tibet. She returned with him and his students to Golok, where she lived as a renunciate. There, Sera Khandro became life partners with Garra Gyelse. Jetsun Dechen Wangmo (c.1925 - 2011) was a Tibetan Buddhist. Family Wangmo was the daughter of a noble family which was said to be descended from the legendary King Gaesar of Ling. She was Minling Khenchen Rinpoche's mother and the aunt of the 11th Mindrolling Trichen Rinpoche, the 11th throne holder of Mindrolling. Tamdrin Wangmo Kelzang Chokyi Nyima
Jetsunma Tamdrin Wangmo Kelzang Chokyi Nyima (1836–1896) was a Tibetan Buddhist teacher and vajramaster. She was taught by her father Kunga Richen, her brother Dorje Rinchen, and her paternal uncle, Pema Dudul Wangchuk. She received the three vows (prātimokṣa, bodhisattva and tantric) from the abbot of Sakya's Lhakhang Chenmo, Tashi Chopel.
