Nilza Wangmo
Nilza Wangmo (born c. 1979) is an Indian restaurant owner and an enthusiast for the local food of the Ladakh region of northern India. Her work in 2019 was recognised with the highest award for women in India – Nari Shakti Puraskar. Life Wangmo was born in Alchi in about 1979 after her father died. Her mothers parents took her in and was brought up in a village named "Stok". The village is in the mountains. She went to a missionary school whilst her mother worked for an NGO on low wages. Money was tight and although she entered college there was insufficient funds to keep her there. Her father's family were inhospitable and would not allow then to user her father's house. They would have been homeless if her mother's father had not paid for the construction of a home for her and her mother in Alchi. Alchi
Alchi is a village in the Leh district of Ladakh, India. It is located in the Likir tehsil, on the banks of the Indus River 70 km downstream from the capital Leh. Unlike the other gompas in Ladakh, Alchi is situated on lowland, not on a hilltop. The Alchi Monastery or Alchi Gompa lies about 65 km from Leh on the banks of the Indus River. History The village is famous for the existence of one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh (a national heritage) Alchi Monastery, mainly known for its magnificent and well-preserved 11th- or 12th-century wall paintings, all in an Indo- Himalayan style.Rizvi (1996), p. 60. Ram Nath Kovind
Ram Nath Kovind (; born 1 October 1945) is an Indian politician who served as the 14th President of India from 2017 to 2022. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the second person after K. R. Narayanan, from the Dalit community to occupy the post. Prior to his presidency, he served as the 26th Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017 and as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 2006. Before entering politics, he was a lawyer for 16 years and practiced in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India until 1993. Momo (food)
Momo is a dish with origins from Tibet. They are bite-size dumplings made with a spoonful of stuffing wrapped in dough. Usually steamed, though they are sometimes fried or steam-fried. The dish has spread to China, Nepal and India. Origin Momo is the colloquial form of the Tibetan word "mog mog". It is possible that this Tibetan word is borrowed from the Chinese term momo (馍馍), a name traditionally used in northwestern Chinese dialects for bread. The word mo (馍) itself means food related to flour. As can be seen in dishes from Shaanxi cuisine like roujiamo and paomo. The different names for the dumpling include Assamese: মম; Bengali: মোমো; Hindi-Urdu: मोमो, مومو; Ladakhi: མོག་མོག་ Nepali: मम; Nepal Bhasa: मम, small momo - ममचा; ; . Nari Shakti Puraskar
The Nari Shakti Puraskar is an annual award given by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Government of India to individual women or to institutions that work towards the cause of women empowerment. It is the highest civilian honour for women in India, and is presented by the president of India on International Women's Day (8 March) at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The award was instituted in 1999 under the title of Stree Shakti Puraskar, renamed and reorganised in 2015. Tourism In Ladakh
Tourism is one of an economic contributor to the union territory of Ladakh in Northern India. The union territory is sandwiched between the Karakoram mountain range to the north and the Himalayas to the south and is situated at the height of 11,400 ft. Ladakh is composed of the Leh and Kargil districts. The region contains prominent Buddhist sites and has an ecotourism industry. Transport The two roads into the area from outside are the Zoji-La Pass and Kargil route from Srinagar District in the Kashmir Valley, and the high altitude Manali-Leh Highway from Himachal Pradesh. The Manali-Leh road is open only from May or June to October or November when snow is cleared from several passes.
