Walter Boden
Walter Boden (6 August 1837 – 16 September 1905) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire in 1874. Boden was born in St. Peter's, Derby, the son of Henry and Ann Boden. He became a partner in the lace business of Boden and Black. Boden played for a pre-club Derbyshire against an All England Eleven in 1857 and 1859. His initial first-class match was for Gentlemen of the North in a defeat by Gentlemen of the South at Kennington Oval in 1859. He played several recorded matches for North Staffordshire and other clubs in the 1860s. Boden was present with his brother Henry at the inaugural meeting of Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1870 He played some games for Gentlemen of Derbyshire in 1871, but did not play for Derbyshire until the 1874 season when he played one match against Kent as a lower-order batsman. Mickleover is a large suburban village of Derby, in Derbyshire, England. It is west of Derby city centre, northeast of Burton-upon-Trent, west of Nottingham city centre, southeast of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, Ashbourne and northeast of Uttoxeter. Horace Peacock
Horace Ogilvie Peacock (26 September 1869 – 5 June 1940) was an English first-class cricketer and British Army officer. Peacock served in the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry during Second Boer War, in addition to playing first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club. Military career Peacock was born at St Neots and was educated at Harrow School. After leaving Harrow he enlisted in the British Army with the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry as a second lieutenant. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in February 1900. Having served in the Second Boer War, Peacock was promoted several years later to the rank of major in April 1908. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Kent County Cricket Club
Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. The current Kent County Cricket Club was formed on 6 December 1870 following the merger of two representative teams. Kent have competed in the County Championship since the official start of the competition in 1890 and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Henry Boden
Henry Boden (13 February 1836 – 13 November 1908) was an English first-class cricketer. The son of Henry and Ann Boden, he was born at Derby in February 1836 and was educated at Rugby School. He was in business as a lace magnet in Derby, where he was a partner in Boden and Company Limited. He made a single appearance in first-class cricket for the Gentlemen of the North against the Gentlemen of the South at 1861 at Nottingham. Batting twice in the match, he was dismissed for 2 runs in the Gentlemen of the North first-innings by Edward Hartnell, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for 6 runs by Frederick Miller. He organised the 1862 meeting between the two sides and would have played, had the death of his father not prevented him from doing so. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1874 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire earned the title of Champion County in their fourth year playing as a club. Kent joined Lancashire to make the second County side to play first class matches against Derbyshire in 1874. Derbyshire won three first-class matches and drew one, making it the only season in which they never lost a match. 1874 season Derbyshire were considered Champion County with other teams because at the time the smallest number of games lost decided the order of merit. Through no fault of their own, Derbyshire were able to arrange matches only against Lancashire and Kent, three of which ended in victory and the other in a draw. Timothy Boden
Timothy Walter Boden (19 May 1901 – 5 September 1969) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire in 1920. Boden was born at Sherborne, Dorset. His grandfather, Henry, and great-uncle Walter were present at the inaugural meeting of Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1870 and both played first-class cricket in the latter half of the 19th century. Boden was educated at Eton and played in the Eton v Harrow matches in 1918. Boden played in one game for Derbyshire during the 1920 season which was against Sussex in August. Boden played in the middle order and made 5 and 9 in his two first-class innings. Boden married Pauline Alison Copland.
