Walkabouts
The Walkabouts were an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984. The core members were vocalist Carla Torgerson and vocalist and songwriter Chris Eckman. Although the rest of the line-up changed occasionally, for most of the time the other members were Michael Wells, Glenn Slater and Terri Moeller. The band drew inspiration from folk and country music, particularly Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young and Johnny Cash, but also from other types of artists and musical styles such as Scott Walker, Leonard Cohen, French chanson and Jacques Brel. Their sound was typically rich, with string arrangements and keyboards in addition to the standard rock instruments. The Walkabouts achieved commercial success and a strong fanbase in Europe, where they had done promotion and extensive touring starting from the early 1990s. John Baker Saunders
John Baker Saunders, Jr. (September 23, 1954 – January 15, 1999) was an American musician, known as a founding member and bassist for the American grunge rock supergroup Mad Season, as well as a member of The Walkabouts. Biography Saunders was born on September 23, 1954 in Montgomery, Alabama to John Baker Saunders, Sr. and Charleen I. Greer. He attended North Shore Country Day School, Rye Country Day School, Fay School, New Trier High School (East), Cabrillo College and Providence College. Saunders began his career as a blues bassist, working with traditional blues artists in Chicago, such as Hubert Sumlin and Sammy Fender. He recorded and toured Europe with the Seattle-based band The Walkabouts. Saunders also worked with The Lamont Cranston Band in Minneapolis. In 1994, Saunders went into a Minneapolis drug rehabilitation facility, where he met Pearl Jam's Mike McCready. Glitterhouse Records
Glitterhouse Records is a German independent record label and mail order company based in Beverungen, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in the mid-1980s. From the late 1980s until the mid-1990s it was the European branch of the American label Sub Pop. Since 1997 the annual Orange Blossom Special Festival has been staged behind the Glitterhouse headquarters. Glitterhouse created the subsidiary Glitterbeat Records label (2013) and Stag-O-Lee Mailorder record shop. Willard Grant Conspiracy
Willard Grant Conspiracy (WGC) was an alt-country band based originally in Boston, Massachusetts and later near Palmdale, California, U.S.. The band operated as a collective, with vocalist and songwriter Robert Fisher the only permanent member throughout its existence. Fisher's voice and Americana style have been compared to both John Cale and Johnny Cash, with most songs being acoustic. Fred Chalenor
Fred Chalenor (December 29, 1955 – June 23, 2018) was an American bassist, most recognized for his work in the bands Caveman Shoestore, Tone Dogs, and Face Ditch. He also collaborated on numerous occasions with composer and keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, recording with him in Pigpen and Zony Mash, and with composer and percussionist Robert Mike Mahaffay of Tres Gone. Biography Fred Chalenor was born December 29, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. His first band was Zanzibar, a group led by guitarist Rick Adams based in Portland, Oregon. In 1978, Fred left the band overseas to perform in a folk duo. The Bambi Molesters
The Bambi Molesters were a surf rock band from Sisak, Croatia, founded in 1995. They performed regularly in Croatia and all over Europe, often opening for the US rock band R.E.M. They released five studio albums from 1997 until 2013. In collaboration with Chris Eckman, leader of the gothic-americana band The Walkabouts, the project "The Strange" was born. In 2018, after 13 years, they announced on Facebook that they would disband 'It's time for a new era' but did not reveal any reasons. Midnight Choir was a Norwegian alternative rock/alt-country band active from 1992 to 2004. PopLlama Records is an independent record label founded by record producer Conrad Uno in Seattle, Washington, in 1984. After making several of his own demos in his basement studio, Uno would produce The Young Fresh Fellows' debut album ''The Fabulous Sounds of the Pacific Northwest'' at the band's request. When the band decided to release their own albums, Uno founded PopLlama Records to help, releasing their debut album as well as the follow up '' Topsy Turvy''. Brian Young (born 1968) is an American drummer and music producer. He is best known as the drummer of the New York-based, Grammy-nominated power pop band Fountains of Wayne and Seattle-based alternative rock band The Posies. From 2012 to 2021 Young was the drummer for the Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. Early career Young was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Bethel Park. At the start of his teenage years, Young’s family moved to Prescott, Arizona, where Brian began playing drums. He attended Bradshaw Mountain High School, where he graduated in 1986. His first professional experience was filling in for his drum teacher at gigs, where other musicians expressed surprise at seeing a fifteen year-old kid show up to play.
