Walk-on (sports)
A walk-on, in American and Canadian college athletics, is an athlete who becomes part of a team without being recruited and awarded an athletic scholarship. A team's walk-on players are normally the weakest players and relegated to the scout team, and may not even be placed on the official depth chart or traveling team, while the scholarship players are the team's main players. However, a walk-on player occasionally becomes a noted member of the team. General parameters *Because of scholarship limits instituted by the NCAA, many football teams do not offer scholarships to their punters, long snappers and kickers until they have become established producers. *Sometimes injury or outside issues can ravage the depth chart of a particular position, resulting in the elevation of a walk-on to a featured player. *In other situations, a walk-on may so impress the coaching staff with their play on the scout team and in practice that they are rewarded with a scholarship and made a pa ...

Walk On (Boston Album)
''Walk On'' is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Boston, released on June 7, 1994 by MCA Records. Erlewine, Stephen Thomas"Walk On - Boston" ''AllMusic''. Rovi Corporation. Retrieved 2015-04-12. It is the first album not to feature vocalist Brad Delp, though he did assist as a songwriter. Vocal duties were handled by Fran Cosmo, making this his first appearance on a Boston album. Delp and Cosmo shared leads during the album's supporting tour and the album’s follow-up '' Corporate America''. History After the success of their 1986 album ''Third Stage'', the band began planning a follow-up and writing for ''Walk On'', which began in 1988. However, due to the increased friction and disagreements between bandleader Tom Scholz and singer-songwriter Brad Delp, the latter left the band in 1989 to join original Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau in forming a new band (named RTZ). Soon after, Fran Cosmo was hired and introduced as the new lead singer. Cosmo had previously w ...

Baby, Walk On
"Baby, Walk On" is a song originally recorded by American country music singer Matraca Berg. It was her first single release, and it appears on her 1990 debut album ''Lying to the Moon''. A second version, titled just "Walk On", was released by Linda Ronstadt in 1995. History As with most of the tracks on ''Lying to the Moon'', Berg wrote the song with Ronnie Samoset, with Josh Leo and Wendy Waldman as producers. Instead of a B-side, the commercial single release featured three snippets from the album. Berg's version was also the B-side of her 1991 single "It's Easy to Tell". Critical reception Kimmy Wix of ''Cash Box'' reviewed Berg's version with favor, stating that "an energy-boosting time that says 'If you're gonna walk, take big steps!'" and that it "not only flaunts Berg's driving vocals, but gives us a tune full of deep-boppin' music, as well as a message with which we can easily relate." Linda Ronstadt version Linda Ronstadt also covered the song as just "Walk On" on he ...

Walk-on (actor)
In acting, a bit part is a role in which there is direct interaction with the principal actors and no more than five lines of dialogue, often referred to as a five-or-less or under-five in the United States, or under sixes in British television, or a walk-on part with no dialogue. A bit part is higher than that of an extra and lower than that of a supporting actor. An actor who regularly performs in bit roles, either as a hobby or to earn a living, is referred to as a bit player, a term also used to describe an aspiring actor who has not yet broken into supporting or leading roles. Unlike extras, who do not typically interact with principals, actors in bit parts are sometimes listed in the credits. An exception to this practice is the cameo appearance, wherein a well-known actor or other celebrity appears in a bit part; it is common for such appearances to be uncredited. In MGM's 1951 screen version of the musical ''Show Boat'', the role of the cook Queenie (Frances E. William ...

On The Beach (Neil Young Album)
''On the Beach'' is the 5th studio album by Canadian-American musician Neil Young, released by Reprise Records in July 1974. The album is the second of the so-called "Ditch Trilogy" of albums that Young recorded following the major success of 1972's ''Harvest'', whereupon the scope of his success and acclaim became apparent; Young subsequently experienced alienation, and ''On the Beach'' was inspired by his feelings of retreat and melancholy stemming from it. ''On the Beach'' is a folk rock album exploring themes of anger, alienation, nihilism and cautious optimism. Looking back on the album for the liner notes to the ''Decade'' box set, Young wrote that the experience of releasing ''Harvest'', which inspired the despaired themes of ''On the Beach'', "put me in the middle of the road. Traveling there soon became a bore, so I headed for the ditch. A rougher ride but I saw more interesting people there." As well as its release on vinyl, ''On the Beach'' was also released on cassett ...

The Calling (Hilltop Hoods Album)
''The Calling'' is the third studio album by Australian hip hop group Hilltop Hoods and was released on 22 September 2003 through Obese Records. The success of the album was significant in the Australian hip hop scene because it demonstrated popular recognition for a genre previously supported by a comparatively small, "underground" fan base. Three singles were released as single and two placed in the 2003 Triple J Hottest 100 chart: "The Nosebleed Section" was voted into ninth place, while " Dumb Enough" was voted into position 44. Reception In an interview after the release of their fourth album, Suffa revealed that ''The Calling'' was recorded on his mother's computer and the simplicity of their 'studio' is the reason why some of the music on the album is in monaural ('mono') sound. On 26 July 2006, Obese Records announced that the album became the first Australian hip hop release to achieve a platinum certification. The album originally peaked at number 53 on the Austral ...

Critical reception ''The Encyclopedia of Popular Music'' called the title track one of Hiatt's "most infectious songs." In its review, ''Entertainment Weekly'' called Hiatt "country rock’s best singer-songwriter."
