The Wales Women's National Sevens Team represents Wales in Rugby sevens. History In 2006 Wales won the European Women Sevens Championship after beating England 10–7 in the final. In 2012 they competed in round 2 of the European Women's Sevens Series which also acted as a qualifier for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. They failed to qualify after finishing in 11th place overall. Wales finished in fifth place at the 2017 Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series and qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. They defeated South Africa 19–14 in the seventh place playoff. The Prince of Wales's feathers is the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales, during the use of the title by the English and later British monarchy. The rugby sevens at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – Women's tournament was the women's event of the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens competition held every four years. It was held at the Coventry Stadium from 29 to 31 July 2022. Venue The tournaments were originally scheduled to take place at Villa Park, but they instead took place at the Coventry Stadium in Coventry. Rugby sevens has been played at every Commonwealth Games since its first appearance at the 1998 edition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Rugby sevens was an optional sport that was included for 2002 and 2006; it was then made a 'Core' sport by the Commonwealth Games Federation, necessitating its appearance at all future games from the 2010 Games onward. New Zealand dominated the men's tournament at its inception until 2014 when they lost for the first time at the Games, playing South Africa in the gold medal match. 2022 marked the first time that New Zealand failed to reach the gold medal match in either the men's or women's tournaments. Rebecca De Filippo (born 25 February 1994) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays centre for Bristol Ladies and the Wales women's national rugby union team. The South Africa women's national rugby sevens team competes at events within the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series and was a core team for 2014–15 season. They first played in the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens, and also competed in the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup in the 2011–12 season. South Africa did not qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics despite winning the 2015 Women's Africa Cup Sevens because the South African Olympic Committee (SASCOC) rules states that teams cannot qualify by winning continental titles. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018.
