Waidhaus is a municipality in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria, Germany. It lies near the border with the Czech Republic, and near the major border crossing between Bavaria and the Czech Republic, where the Bavarian A6 meets the Czech D5 motorway. The closest towns are on the German side Pleystein and on the Czech side Rozvadov. A gas pipeline and a powerline also cross the border between Bavaria and the Czech Republic there. Bundesautobahn 6
, also known as Via Carolina (between Nuremberg and the Czech border continuing to Prague - by czech motorway D5) is a 477 km (296.4 mi) long German autobahn. It starts at the French border near Saarbrücken in the west and ends at the Czech border near Waidhaus in the east. The first plans for the A 6 were laid out in 1935; construction on several parts began in 1938. In 1940, construction near Mannheim was stopped when the bridge across the Rhine collapsed, killing many workers. A new bridge, the Theodor Heuss Bridge (Frankenthal), was opened in 1953. Other parts of the A 6 were completed in 1941. A part near Kaiserslautern was used as an airstrip by the Luftwaffe during World War II. D5 Motorway (Czech Republic)
D5 motorway ( cs, Dálnice D5) is a highway in the Czech Republic. It runs from Prague through Plzeň into Germany. D5 is long; a bypass of Plzeň includes the Valík Tunnel and the bridge over the River Úhlava. Section between Prague and Beroun is planned to be improved to three lanes in each direction. Neustadt an der Waldnaab is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the south and clockwise) the districts of Schwandorf, Amberg-Sulzbach, Bayreuth and Tirschenreuth, and by the Czech Republic (Plzeň Region).
