Chip Wadena
Darrell "Chip" Wadena, Sr. (November 11, 1938 – June 24, 2014) was an American Ojibwe tribal executive. Born in White Earth, Minnesota, Wadena grew up in Naytahwaush, Minnesota, and went to school there. He served in the United States Army, worked at the American Crystal Sugar Company, and in construction. Wadena served on the White Earth Indian Reservation tribal council and as chairman of the council from 1976 to 1996. As tribal chairman, he helped start the reservation's Shooting Star Casino. During his chairmanship, a community center and clinic were built on the reservation. In 1996, Wadena was convicted in the United States District Court of bribery, conspiracy, theft, embezzlement, and money laundering, for which he served two years in prison. Dissatisfaction with his leadership, and suspicions of corruption, led to a 1990s campaign by other White Earth Band of Ojibwe members to end his tenure on the council. Wadena, Indiana
Wadena is an unincorporated community in Union Township, Benton County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Wadena was founded by John Swan and named after Wadena, Minnesota, a town Swan had recently visited and found pleasing. The name derives from an Ojibwa term meaning "little round hill". The town was situated along a north/south rail line constructed through Benton County in the 1880s, originally operated as the Chicago and Great Southern Railway and later as the Chicago and Indiana Coal Railway, the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad, and ultimately the Chicago, Attica and Southern Railroad which maintained the line until its abandonment in the 1940s. Wadena is a city in Fayette County, Iowa, United States. The population was 209 at the time of the 2020 census. Wadena's electricity is supplied by Alliant Energy. Its land-line phone and DSL internet service is provided by Windstream. Cellular phone service is mainly provided by U.S. Cellular, as they have a tower located just east of town. Wadena is located in a valley and other cellular phone providers have spotty coverage in town. Wadena no longer has a cable television provider. Any cable television services must be obtained through satellite service providers such as Dish Network or DirecTV. Wadena ( ) is a town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, located east of Saskatoon, north of Fort Qu'Appelle and northwest of Yorkton on the eastern shore of the Quill Lakes.
