WXTJ-LP
WXTJ-LP is a Freeform formatted broadcast radio station licensed to and serving Charlottesville, Virginia, owned and operated by the University of Virginia. WXTJ-LP was founded by the staff of WTJU (91.1 FM) in 2013 as a response to low and declining student involvement at the University of Virginia's long-established college radio station. WXTJ is now entirely administered and programmed by students, with WTJU's staff providing only studio space and technical support. The station first went live on the Internet in the fall of 2013 under the fictitious callsign WTJX. A planned Part 15 AM transmitter on 1620 kHz while the station raised money for an FM signal was publicized, but never materialized. WXTJ gained its current callsign as a side effect of applying for an LPFM license in 2015. WTJU
WTJU is a Variety formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Charlottesville, Virginia, serving Charlottesville and Albemarle County, Virginia. WTJU is owned and operated by University of Virginia. History WTJU was founded in 1955 when U.Va.’s Department of Speech and Drama decided to start an educational radio station to serve the larger community. WUVA, the university's carrier current AM station, had been broadcasting popular music to students since 1947. The fraternity Kappa Delta Pi put up a large part of the funds necessary to get the station off the ground. On May 10, 1957, WTJU went on the air at 91.3 FM with a classical music format. It was able to broadcast throughout Charlottesville, building a small but dedicated group of listeners. Charlottesville, colloquially known as C'ville, is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. WTJX-TV
WTJX-TV, virtual channel 12 (UHF digital channel 36), is a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) member television station serving the United States Virgin Islands that is licensed to Charlotte Amalie, Saint Thomas. Owned by the Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System, it is sister to National Public Radio (NPR) member station WTJX-FM (93.1 MHz). The two stations share studios on Haypiece Hill in Charlotte Amalie; WTJX-TV's transmitter is located on Signal Hill. WTJX-TV also operates a translator facility in Christiansted on Saint Croix: W05AW-D on VHF channel 5.
