WVRC Media is a media corporation comprising radio stations and two radio networks based in the state of West Virginia. The company was known as the West Virginia Radio Corporation prior to a December 2021 rebranding. The company is controlled by Greer Industries and its owners, the Raese family. It was founded by Herbert and Agnes Greer, who signed on WAJR in 1940. Since 1972, John Raese and his two brothers have controlled the company; they are Herbert and Agnes' grandsons. Keyser () is a city in and the county seat of Mineral County, West Virginia. It is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,853 at the 2020 census. History Keyser, the county seat of Mineral County, is located on the North Branch of the Potomac River at its juncture with New Creek in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. WKWS (96.1 FM) is a broadcast radio station licensed to Charleston, West Virginia, and owned and operated by WVRC Media History Origination In 1969, WBES – FM 96.1 was launched by Rollins Telecasting (later acquired by Heritage Media) as an FM sister station of WCHS (AM) and WCHS-TV with a beautiful music format. WCHS (580 kHz) is a news/talk/sports formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Charleston, West Virginia, serving Southern West Virginia and Southwestern West Virginia. West Virginia MetroNews is a radio network heard on many radio stations throughout the State of West Virginia. The network is owned by the West Virginia Radio Corporation. West Virginia MetroNews offers a mix of news and talk. It held the rights to live play-by-play coverage of West Virginia University Mountaineers sports games, which it marketed under the DBA name "Mountaineer Sports Network", but lost these rights following the end of the 2012/13 basketball season. The network also provides coverage of select high school football and basketball games that happen in West Virginia. Availability The network is carried on all West Virginia Radio Corporation owned stations, and is syndicated to stations in markets where WVRC does not do business.
