WTSN-CD
WTSN-CD, virtual and UHF digital channel 20, is a low-powered, Class A Antenna TV- affiliated television station licensed to Evansville, Indiana, United States. The station is owned by Three Sisters Broadcasting, as part of a duopoly with WYYW-CD (channel 15). WAZE-TV originally occupied its digital signal on UHF channel 20 just before that station shut down permanently in 2011. History The low-powered channel 20 was founded on September 22, 2011, as WYYW-CD, and became a MeTV affiliate two months later. This happened three weeks after CBS affiliate WEVV-TV began broadcasting Fox network programming on its second digital subchannel. On December 12, 2012, WYYW-CD and sister station WTSN-CD swapped call signs. The original WTSN-CD became WYYW-CD, while the original WYYW-CD became WTSN-CD. WYYW-CD
WYYW-CD, virtual and UHF digital channel 15, is a low-powered, Class A Telemundo- affiliated television station licensed to Evansville, Indiana, United States. Until 2009, WYYW-CD was co-owned by the Evansville Low Power Partnership and Comcorp, which owns Evansville CBS affiliate WEVV-TV. History On May 19, 2009, the then-WTSN-LP ceased broadcasting My44 and MyNetworkTV programming, and on June 1, the station flash cut to digital as WTSN-LD and changed its affiliation to America One. WEVV now carries MyNetworkTV as a secondary affiliate on its digital signal, on digital channel 44.2. In August 2010, both WTSN-LD and WYYW-LP were granted Class A status by the Federal Communications Commission. WFIE (channel 14) is a television station in Evansville, Indiana, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by Gray Television. The station's studios are located on Mount Auburn Road in Evansville, and its transmitter is located in the Wolf Hills section of Henderson, Kentucky. History WFIE was granted a construction permit on June 10, 1953, and began broadcasting on November 15, 1953, on analog UHF channel 62. The station, Indiana's sixth, was originally co-owned by Jesse, Isadore, and Oscar Fine. WFIE was the second station in the Tri-State, but the first to be based in Evansville proper. In broadcasting, sister stations or sister channels are radio or television stations operated by the same company, either by direct ownership or through a management agreement. Radio sister stations will often have different formats, and sometimes one station is on the AM band while another is on the FM band. A duopoly (or twinstick, referring to "stick" as jargon for a radio tower) is a situation in television and radio broadcasting in which two or more stations in the same city or community share common ownership. United States In the United States, the practice of duopolies has been frowned upon when using public airwaves, on the premise that it gives too much influence to one company. However, rules governing radio stations are less restrictive than those for television, allowing as many as eight radio stations under common ownership in the largest U.S. media markets.
